From discounted private island hire to invitations to unique events, Pelorus is offering ‘experiential benefits’ to holders of limited-edition superyacht NFTs. Rose Dykins reports
Private expedition company Pelorus has announced it will offer a series of exclusive travel experiences for holders of Superyacht NFTs – which have been created by yacht builder Oceanco and superyacht designer Timur Bozca.
Pelorus says it wants to continue positioning itself as a pioneering travel company that pushes boundaries, which has led to it exploring the NFT (non-fungible tokens) arena, and their potential in the superyacht industry. As a result, Pelorus has committed to launching a collection of “experiential benefits” available exclusively to Oceanco’s verified NFT holders.
The first superyacht builder to tap into the NFT commerce world, Oceanco designed its virtual tokens in collaboration by Timur Bozca of Bozca Limitless Design – whom it has previously partnered with to design its Esquel concept yacht.
It’s a bit hard to understand but from what Globetrender can ascertain, people can buy the limited-edition superyacht NFTs, which function as tokens, and then avail of certain privileges. Superyacht NFTs says on its website: ” Come aboard through these unique digital vessels anchored on the Casper blockchain.
“Our roadmap activations enhance your ownership with a load of money-can’t-buy benefits, experienced both virtually and in real life. Do you like invitations to exclusive parties on superyachts and limited airdrops of insanely cool supertoys to make your NFT even rarer? We like pushing boundaries and aren’t afraid to do things differently and have fun.”
The new NFT “utilities” from Pelorus include discounted rates on its yacht charter, private island hire or accommodation bookings; free planning meetings with Pelorus co-founders Geordie Mackay-Lewis and Jimmy Carroll; multi-year long-term planning; access to a number of scientific research or conservation projects; discounted Pelorus photography experiences with award-winning photographers and documentarians whilst on holiday; and access to exclusive Pelorus events across the globe.
Apparently, the benefits are “just the start of what could be offered to digital owners as Pelorus and Oceanco look to foster a strong relationship with the yachting community through innovative means, Pelorus said in a statement.
Dr Barwani, chairman of Oceanco, says: “It has always been important to Oceanco that we push the boundaries of yachting in a positive direction. Which is why launching into a new digital realm with NFTs felt like a natural progression, and we are happy to be working with such excellent trusted partners on this journey.”
Marcel Onkenhout, Oceanco’s CEO, adds: “With our superyacht NFTs collection, it has always been a priority to offer utilities that benefit holders of the NFTs. As well as being inclusive and granting our community from around the world access to some of the enjoyments, such as taking part in the design of your very own digital yacht NFT, which is a world first.”
Geordie Mackay-Lewis, co-founder of Pelorus, says, “We are delighted to support Oceanco and their partners,in bringing superyacht NFTs to life. For two brands with a deep-rooted desire for innovation, we’ve always felt a natural affinity towards the Oceanco team and their forward-thinking approach to exploration.
“It’s incredibly exciting to be involved with such a pioneering project to help modern travellers discover the world through true utilisation of blockchain technology.”
