Brits splurge £30 billion on honeymoons

Data from Emirates reveals how much UK couples splash out on honeymoons to cement their happily ever after. Olivia Palamountain reports

A new study by Emirates has unveiled that Brits have spent a collective £30 billion on honeymoons, with the average couple shelling out £4,062 for their post-nuptial getaway.

Nearly one in five newlyweds are opting to upgrade their flights, with 28 per cent choosing Premium Economy and 11 per cent splurging on Business Class.

Interestingly, 40 per cent of honeymooning couples expect special treatment onboard to commemorate their new marital status.Emirates honeymoon dataThe study reveals that UK couples dedicate an average of two months to planning their honeymoon, two weeks longer than they typically spend planning regular holidays.

Budget considerations (33 per cent), personal interests (32 per cent), and recommendations from family and friends (26 per cent) are the primary factors influencing destination choices.

While beach destinations remain the most popular choice for 47 per cent of honeymooners, city breaks (24 per cent), spa retreats (17 per cent), and adventure holidays (16 per cent) are also gaining traction.

Many couples are opting for multi-destination trips, with 23 per cent visiting at least three countries during their honeymoon.

The research also sheds light on emerging trends in honeymoon styles. The "familymoon", where newlyweds celebrate with their families, is gaining popularity with 28 per cent of couples choosing this option.

Meanwhile, the "buddymoon", which involves celebrating with friends, is appealing to 16 per cent of couples, with 54 per cent of young adults (18-34) either having taken or considered this type of celebration.
