Soho House will open Soho River House in Berkshire in late 2027, combining 93 bedrooms with rowing, racquet sports, wellness facilities and restaurants on the banks of the River Thames.

Soho House is expanding its UK countryside offering with Soho River House, a new members' club and hotel set to open on the River Thames at the end of 2027.

The property will occupy Oakley Court, a 400-year-old neogothic mansion in Berkshire that has hosted seasonal Soho House pop-ups for the past four summers. The permanent Soho River House will be available to Every House members and will operate as an extension of their London membership.

Located less than 45 minutes from London by train, the project is designed as Soho House's take on a traditional country club, combining overnight stays and dining with sport, wellness and entertainment.

The property will have 93 bedrooms alongside a riverside restaurant and a grill in the main House. A Vinyl Bar will provide a late-night space for drinks and music, with leather seating, a DJ booth and a dedicated sound system.

Sport will be a major part of Soho River House. The property will introduce the company's first Soho House Racquet and Rowing Club, with courts for tennis, padel and pickleball.

Rowing facilities will include dry boat storage, a staging area and a launching ramp providing direct access to the Thames. Members will be able to take part in coaching programmes ranging from introductory sessions to longer courses, with different boats available as their experience develops.

Andrew Carnie, CEO of Soho House, describes the concept as a reinvention of the country club. Speaking to The Times, he says: “When thinking about our London members, it [a country club] was the one thing that we felt was missing in their lives.”

Wellness will be another focus. A Soho Health Club will contain a gym and wellness technology, while a dedicated area called Lazy River will provide facilities for recovery, including onsens and cold plunges. Members will also be able to relax outside on the Lazy Lawn overlooking the Thames.

The concept reflects the increasing overlap between hospitality, wellness and sport, with Soho River House intended to accommodate different activities over the course of a single day. Members could visit for a game of tennis or padel, go rowing, use the wellness facilities and stay for dinner and drinks without booking an overnight stay.

For those who do stay, the 93 bedrooms will follow Soho House's established residential design approach. Some will cater for families, including children's sleeping areas with bunk beds that can be concealed behind curtains. Plans also include stocked pantries with practical supplies for parents.

The design of Soho River House will draw on both British sporting clubs and American varsity culture while retaining elements of Oakley Court's existing architecture. The mansion is also known as a filming location for the 1975 movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Food and drink will be spread across several areas of the property. In addition to the main grill and riverside restaurant, plans reported by The Times include open-fire cooking, food trucks, waterside drinking and cabanas.

A programme of member events will run throughout the week. These will include live performances, One Night Only dinners with guest chefs and In Conversation talks.

The opening follows several years of Soho House using Oakley Court for temporary summer events, allowing members to spend time beside the Thames before the company committed to a permanent location.

Soho River House will sit alongside Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire and Babington House in Somerset as a countryside alternative to the group's city clubs. Soho House began in London in 1995 and has since expanded to more than 40 Houses internationally.

With its combination of rowing, racquet sports, recovery facilities, restaurants and accommodation, Soho River House also signals a broader evolution of the private members' club model, with leisure and fitness becoming as central to the experience as dining and nightlife.
