Bomporto Hotels introduces electric MOKEs in Portugal

September 17, 2026

Bomporto Hotels has partnered with British car brand MOKE International to offer vehicles for guests exploring Lisbon and Porto.

Portuguese hotel group Bomporto Hotels has introduced Electric MOKEs across its three properties in Lisbon and Porto, marking the first hotel partnership in Portugal to offer the fully electric vehicles.

Available since July 2026, the Electric MOKEs can be hired at the Lumiares Hotel and Spa and the Vintage Hotel and Spa in Lisbon, as well as the Rebello in Porto. All three properties are members of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

Guests can book through the Bomporto app or hotel guest relations teams, with suggested driving routes and local recommendations provided. The service is also available to people who are not staying at the hotels.Moke

In Lisbon, suggested trips include drives along the river through Belém and coastal journeys towards Cascais and Guincho. From the Rebello in Vila Nova de Gaia, routes take in the Douro riverfront, Foz and Matosinhos. Hotels can also arrange bespoke experiences including picnics.

Nick Roucos, managing director of Bomporto Hotels and SLH ambassador for Portugal, says: “We’ve always felt that the best way to see a place like Lisbon or Porto is not to over-plan it. It’s about the freedom to get a little lost, to stop when something catches your eye, to follow a recommendation from someone local and see where that takes you. That’s really what this is about for us, and the MOKE just fits into that mindset in a very natural way.”MOKE The Rebello Porto

The partnership taps into a wider hospitality shift towards hotels offering experiences beyond their properties, while using electric transport to help guests explore independently.

Originally designed in Britain in the early 1960s by Sir Alec Issigonis, who also created the Austin Mini, the MOKE later became associated with coastal destinations around the world. The modern version is fully electric and is designed and handcrafted in Northamptonshire, England.

Robin Kennedy, co-founder and commercial director at MOKE International, says: “Luxury travellers are also looking for experiences that feel personal rather than prescribed, with the freedom to discover a destination on their own terms.”

He adds: “That’s where we believe the MOKE resonates because it encourages a slower, more immersive way of experiencing a place.”

Hire costs €50 per hour or €225 per day. Bomporto Hotels guests receive a 20% discount on Electric MOKE hire until July 2027.
