Galápagos cruise to set sail with 'Charles Darwin' on board
Quasar Expeditions is offering families the chance to explore the Galápagos Islands alongside 'Charles Darwin' himself, nearly 200 years after the naturalist's groundbreaking voyage. Olivia Palamountain reports
Quasar Expeditions has announced that a very special guest will be joining its Darwin Family Cruise in the Galápagos aboard the M/V Evolution this summer.
Professor Kenneth Noll, a distinguished microbiologist with over 25 years' experience, will lean into his acting skills to portray Charles Darwin during the eight-day journey from July 19-26. Check out a preview video here.
The cruise will accommodate 32 guests as they retrace Darwin's historic route through the archipelago that inspired his theory of evolution. Noll will blend Darwin's original perspective with modern scientific insights whilst serving as the week's tour leader.
When Darwin set sail in 1831, he initially expected to spend two years on his journeys but extended it to five as he made extensive collections and observations that would later become essential to his theory of natural selection and evolution. His most notable stop was the Galápagos archipelago, where he observed variations of wildlife among species on different islands.
The cruise visits islands inaccessible to larger ships, allowing guests unique exploratory opportunities. The company's smaller footprint enables reduced environmental impact whilst navigating the delicate ecosystems of the Galápagos.
Guests can enjoy access to hiking trails, secluded coves and lesser-known islands such as Genovesa Island and Santa Fe Island - the very landscapes that shaped Darwin's discoveries.
The family-oriented approach extends to the naturalists on board, who ensure that "fun, adventure, and education go hand-in-hand" through activities including snorkelling, kayaking, hiking, whale watching and paddleboarding.Located 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, the voyage promises to bring travellers and their families "face-to-face with the incredible wildlife of the Galápagos," with each day offering "an unforgettable lesson in adventure, science, and discovery for curious travellers of all ages."
Quasar Expeditions pioneered high-end expedition cruising in the Galápagos Islands in 1986 and has since expanded to offer expeditions throughout Ecuador, Peru and Patagonia. The company advocates sustainability, offering carbon-neutral adventures and partnering with conservation organisations.
