Luxury yacht charter specialist Silolona Sojourns has designed family-friendly voyages through Indonesia that include everything from treasure hunts to dancing with local tribes. Olivia Palamountain reports
Silolona Sojourns are specialists in bespoke Phinisi yacht charters that hero educational and inspirational experiences for children alongside rest and relaxation for adults.
The company provides tailored journeys through Indonesia aboard two traditional Phinisi vessels - Si Datu Bua for smaller groups and Silolona for larger groups.
Family groups now account for more than half of Silolona's bookings; from June to September, one of their most sought-after family routes explores the Komodo Archipelago, home to the famous Komodo dragons.
Families can embark on guided treks through Rinca Island to observe these prehistoric creatures, snorkel among vibrant coral reefs, or kayak along Padar Island's calm coastlines. The journey also includes relaxation on the secluded pink sand beaches of Pantai Merah, with evenings featuring beach bonfires, stargazing and gourmet dining experiences.
Looking for deeper cultural immersion away from tourist hotspots? Silolona recommends sailing from Eastern Flores to Alor. This itinerary takes guests through some of Indonesia's most remote islands, offering authentic cultural experiences from witnessing ceremonial dances of the Abui tribe to meeting local weavers crafting traditional textiles. Activities range from gentle hikes and village visits to world-class diving and water sports. The company's dedicated crew prioritises safety while ensuring entertainment for younger guests both on board and ashore. From treasure hunts and pirate raids, to craft sessions, painting, and dressing up, the Silolona team loves interacting with young guests and can design a range of engaging activities.
Children can also play beach football with the locals or enjoy nature discovery, including investigating the eclectic marine life in the surroundings. For families with smaller children and babies, nannies can be arranged on request to provide parents with peace of mind.
Notably, Silolona maintains consistent pricing throughout the year without peak season surcharges. Charters can be combined with private plane services for seamless travel arrangements.
Pricing starts at $12,000 (approximately £9,700) per day plus 12% VAT for the Si Datu Bua vessel, which accommodates up to six guests. The larger Silolona vessel, accommodating up to ten guests, is available from $18,700 (approximately £15,000) per day plus 12% VAT. These rates include all food and beverage, diving, scheduled activities, and accommodation.
