Air France-KLM's Flying Blue+ app lets members convert shopping, dining and lifestyle spending into miles that they can spend on flights. Jenny Southan reports

Air France-KLM’s loyalty programme Flying Blue has launched a new mobile app that expands the way members can earn rewards, allowing them to collect air miles from everyday purchases – not just flights. Called Flying Blue+, the app aims to make travel rewards a more integral part of daily life by turning shopping, dining and lifestyle spending into opportunities to accrue miles.

Available now in the UK and US, the app is part of Flying Blue’s ambition to blur the boundaries between loyalty and lifestyle, offering members more ways to engage with the brand even when they’re not in the sky.

How It Works

Flying Blue+ works by allowing users to link their payment card to the app and shop with partner brands either in-store or online. Members can also book stays, car rentals, restaurants and activities directly through the app, earning miles with every transaction.

The app features offers across a wide range of categories, including:

  • Fashion and beauty

  • Food and dining

  • Culture and leisure

  • Banking and insurance

  • Travel and mobility

Early UK retail partners include John Lewis, Waitrose and Hertz. Each partner sets their own earning rate, and Miles are automatically credited to the user’s account after a purchase – although processing times may vary.

Travel Meets Everyday Life

In addition to new earning opportunities, Flying Blue+ provides quick access to:

  • The user’s digital Flying Blue card

  • Miles and XP balance

  • Recent transactions

  • In-app customer support

Members can also manage and spend their Miles within the app, including redeeming reward tickets, upgrades, or extra travel perks, with some features set to roll out from summer 2025.

Flying Blue+ is tailored to each user’s location, preferences, and shopping habits, offering curated deals that align with their lifestyle. The app reflects a broader trend in loyalty – moving beyond the traditional “earn on flights, redeem on flights” model toward a holistic, omnichannel ecosystem that turns every purchase into potential progress toward a dream getaway

The Future of Loyalty

With more than 29 million members globally, Flying Blue’s move into everyday earning aligns with a wider shift across the loyalty space, where major airlines are evolving into lifestyle brands. As the programme plans future functionality and a rollout to more markets, Flying Blue+ could become a key tool in maintaining engagement between trips – and keeping travel top of mind in every moment.
