Unplugged launches first seafront digital detox cabins

May 27, 2026

Off-grid cabin company Unplugged is expanding beyond woodland retreats with two new Somerset stays overlooking the sea.

Unplugged has launched its first seafront cabins, expanding its digital detox concept from woodland settings to the Somerset coastline.

The two new cabins, named Barclay and Wilfred, are located in Porlock on the Somerset coast and have been designed for travellers seeking screen-free escapes by the sea. Like Unplugged’s existing countryside cabins, the stays encourage guests to disconnect from technology through an off-grid experience without wifi.

Both cabins include a lockbox for phones, a log burner, hot shower, books, board games and an instant camera. Linen is supplied by Piglet in Bed, while guests are also provided with an old-school Nokia phone for emergencies.

Positioned high on the hillside above the coast, the cabins overlook the ocean and offer access to nearby walking routes and the seaside village of Porlock Weir. The launch reflects growing interest in UK staycations and nature-led wellbeing experiences.

Hector Hughes, co-founder of Unplugged, says: “Nature has always been at the heart of where we chose to locate our cabins. That started with woodland locations and now we’re delighted to expand the coast.

“The ocean is a powerful tool for mental and physical restoration – the rhythmic sound of the waves, the sight of the vast blue – and we think it compliments our off-grid offering perfectly. With UK staycations booming, we expect these cabins will be in very high demand this summer.”

Founded in 2020, Unplugged now operates more than 50 cabins across the UK and recorded 83% occupancy in 2025. The company recently partnered with wellness platform Healf to launch Helix, a wellbeing-focused cabin concept.

All Unplugged stays are designed as three-night escapes, which the company describes as the ideal length for a digital detox. Prices for the new seafront cabins start from £420 per cabin.

The launch highlights the continued rise of travel experiences centred on slowing down, reconnecting with nature and reducing screen time. As more hospitality brands move into the wellness space, Unplugged is positioning digital detox travel as an accessible form of everyday escape rather than a luxury retreat.
