A new ultra-luxury villa has debuted at Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort in St Lucia, showcasing art by the likes of Banksy and Salvador DalĂ. Olivia Palamountain reports
The Spice of Life, a nine-bedroom residence at Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, offers guests an extraordinary escape hidden within St Lucia's UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Piton Mountains.
Spanning an impressive 35,000 square feet, the villa can accommodate up to 18 guests and has a museum-worthy art collection featuring works by international artists including Yayoi Kusama, Salvador Dali and Banksy.
"This residence sets an entirely new standard of luxury in the Caribbean," says James Wyndham, managing director at Sugar Beach. The property goes beyond typical high-end accommodation, offering custom experiences from private fireworks displays to personalised culinary journeys. Sustainability is at the heart of the design, with locally sourced materials and an innovative water system capable of storing 50,000 gallons of harvested rainwater. The villa's interiors blend indoor and outdoor living, with each of the nine bedrooms offering unique configurations and stunning ocean views.
All materials used throughout the build are locally sourced, using wood and stone that give a soft and natural feel, with custom-made furniture in muted tones to ensure the striking art takes centre stage. A A carefully curated art collection transforms the space into a living gallery; guests can also enjoy immersive art lessons surrounded by these world-renowned artworks, alongside amenities including a private gym, wellness facilities, and access to the resort's eight dining establishments.
The villa's name pays homage to Sir Harold Mitchell, grandfather of the owners, reflecting a deep connection to St Lucia's rich cultural heritage.
Rates are available upon request, with bookings now open for stays beginning this spring.Elsewhere, the resort features luxury guest rooms, cottages, bungalows and villas - each with its own private plunge pool - as well as privately owned Residences and new Beachfront Collection homes.
The indoor-outdoor architecture throughout the property is breezy, white, and light - a nod to the property's history as a former 18th century working sugar plantation.
