Aman is set to open a private island retreat in the Maldives, part of a global growth strategy that includes outposts in Bangkok, Miami and Dubai. Olivia Palamountain reports
Aman has revealed plans for a new property in the Maldives. The development, set to be the brand’s 21st location worldwide, will be situated in the Vaavu atoll, a relatively untouched area of the island nation.
Aman Maldives will feature 52 guest accommodations and 16 private residences. Kerry Hill Architects, a firm with a long-standing relationship with Aman, has been tapped to undertake the design work.
The resort will offer one to three-bedroom pavilions, each equipped with a private pool. Some units will be located on the main island, while others will be spread across nearby smaller islands for added privacy. The development plans also include multiple restaurants, a beach club, and private dining areas. A significant portion of the resort – 2,638 square metres – will be dedicated to spa and wellness facilities, including two private spa houses.
A dive centre and various watersports activities will be on offer, allowing guests to explore some of the country’s most unspoiled reefs (the Vaavu atoll is particularly renowned for its exceptional diving opportunities).
The 16 Aman Residences, ranging from five to 10 bedrooms, will each occupy their own small island. These properties will come with private beaches, 25-metre swimming pools and personal jetties.
The company has not yet announced an opening date for the resort, nor has it disclosed the cost of the project or expected room rates.
This expansion comes as the Maldives continues to explode with new openings from global brands.
In 2025 alone, big hitters including Corinthia, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, and Rosewood will be opening here, offering their take on life in paradise.
The Maldives outpost is part of a significant expansion plan for Aman, which is planning several new properties in key global markets over the coming years.
The company’s upcoming projects include its first urban hotel in Bangkok, situated in Nai Lert Park; a coastal resort in Mexico’s Baja California; and two developments in Saudi Arabia.
In the United States, Aman is set to open in Miami Beach, where it will renovate the Versailles building, and in Beverly Hills, where it plans a hotel and residences within a garden setting.
The group is also developing a ski resort in Niseko, Japan, which will feature the country’s first Aman wellness retreat. Additionally, a beachfront property is slated for Dubai.
