New York-based company Equinox Holdings Inc is planning to open a chain of fitness-inspired hotels, with the first coming to the Big Apple’s new Hudson Yards development in 2018. (You can read more about it here.)

Designed by international firm Yabu Pushelberg, not only will it have indoor and outdoor swimming pools, but the biggest ever Equinox gym, measuring 5,574 sqm.

An on-site restaurant also will serve healthy food using organic ingredients and locally sourced produce. Beyond that, there have been no further details about the facilities.

The Equinox hotel project’s majority owner is Related Companies, one of the largest real-estate development and property management companies in the US. It is also responsible for the whole of the mixed-use Hudson Yards project.

Equinox is planning to follow the New York hotel with one in Los Angeles, in 2019 – eventually it is hoping to have 75 around the world.

Harvey Spevak, chief executive of Equinox, was reported in WSJ as saying: “We are appealing to the discriminating consumer who lives an active lifestyle and wants to have that as a hotel experience.”

There are almost 80 Equinox “temples of well-being” across the US (including 31 in New York) and Canada, as well as one in London.
