The Social Hub and Tony’s Chocolonely turn kindness into hotel currency

The Social Hub and Tony’s Chocolonely have joined forces to create a chocolate hotel room in Amsterdam that cannot be booked in the usual way. Instead of paying for a stay, people in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany must nominate someone they believe is the “world’s sweetest person”, with the winners receiving an overnight stay along with the person who nominated them. The campaign opens on March 5, 2026 and closes on March 12, with one winner chosen from each country.

The pop-up suite, open at The Social Hub Amsterdam from 20th March for ten days, has been designed as a three-room chocolate hotel room filled with edible references, themed interiors and messages about kindness and connection. According to the brands, the project is intended to celebrate simple acts of generosity at a time when many people feel isolated despite being constantly connected online. The concept also links pleasure with a wider social message about how goods are produced and consumed.

Trix van der Vleuten, chief marketing officer at The Social Hub, says: “The world feels increasingly divided. We’re more digitally connected than ever, yet loneliness is rising. We wanted to come together with Tony’s to showcase that sweetness — simple, human kindness — matters more than ever, and that people can enjoy our products while positively impacting society.

“Doing good makes you feel good. So does eating chocolate that's produced fairly, and so does spending time in a one-of-a-kind choco hotel room with someone else. Like Tony’s chocolate bars, this room is designed to be shared. We can’t wait to reveal it, as there’s truly never been anything else like this before.”

Inside the suite, guests will find mismatched furniture based on the design of Tony’s Chocolonely bars, chocolate room service and a playlist featuring artists from cocoa-producing regions. There will also be messages placed throughout the space that focus on connection, kindness and shared experience. Guests will leave with a special two-piece chocolate bar made only for the activation. One piece is intended to be kept and the other is meant to be given away, reinforcing the campaign’s focus on sharing. The limited-edition bar combines white and milk chocolate with caramel and sea salt and will only be available at the Amsterdam pop-up.

Although the room centres on indulgence, the brands are also using it to draw attention to exploitation in the cocoa supply chain. Tony’s Chocolonely says guests will receive a literal wake-up call in the morning, reminding them that unfair conditions still affect many people working in West African cocoa production. The company says it works directly with 40,000 cocoa farmers and their families and pays a higher long-term price intended to support a living income. By placing this message inside a chocolate hotel room, the partners are trying to connect a playful hospitality experience with a more serious issue around ethical sourcing.

Sadira E. Furlow, chief of global brand and communications at Tony’s Chocolonely, says: “As an impact brand that makes chocolate we're trying to end exploitation in cocoa, by showing chocolate can be made very differently. In taste and how we work with cocoa farmers. By launching the world’s sweetest hotel room at The Social Hub, we want to invite fans to indulge in our chocolate, connect with each other and celebrate the people who truly care about the impact their actions have on others.”

To promote the search, “Missing: the world’s sweetest person” posters are appearing across Amsterdam, Berlin and Glasgow. Staff at The Social Hub locations in these cities have also been encouraged to surprise guests and members who show kindness with Tony’s chocolate. For people who do not win the contest, there will still be a chance to see the chocolate hotel room in person. Members of the public in Amsterdam can visit the space on March 29 from 1pm, with pre-registration required through The Social Hub website.
