The Fife Arms unveils Coco Chanel-inspired suite
The Fife Arms in Scotland has opened a new Coco Chanel-inspired suite celebrating the fashion designer’s connection to the Highlands and her influence on luxury travel style.
The Fife Arms hotel in Braemar has unveiled a new bedroom inspired by Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel and her long association with the Scottish Highlands.
Located in the Cairngorms Mountains, the hotel has created the suite as a tribute to Chanel’s love of Scotland, which began in the 1920s during her relationship with Hugh Grosvenor, 2nd Duke of Westminster. During her visits to the Highlands, Chanel developed a passion for fishing and became known as an accomplished fly fisherwoman. The landscapes, fabrics and sporting culture of Scotland would later influence some of her best-known fashion collections.
Designed by Russell Sage Studio, which led the wider interiors project for The Fife Arms, the new bedroom references both Chanel’s Paris apartment and her life in Scotland. Hidden behind a trompe-l'œil door, the suite is designed to feel concealed from the rest of the hotel, with guests guided to the entrance by a Camelia symbol associated with Chanel.

The interiors feature specially commissioned tweeds from Linton mill in rich green and burgundy tones. Chanel first discovered the textile mill in 1928 and it continues to work with the Chanel fashion house today.
Decorative details throughout the suite reference Chanel’s apartment at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris, including a wheatsheaf chandelier and an Art Deco vanity mirror. The wallpaper recreates a design from Rosehall House near Lairg, a Scottish manor house decorated by Chanel during her relationship with the Duke of Westminster.
The room also includes painted Scottish Chinoiserie furniture, a walk-in wardrobe, a private bar area and a freestanding copper bath positioned within an arched alcove. The bathroom uses the monochrome palette strongly associated with Chanel’s fashion designs.

The suite replaces the hotel’s former Family Room, which has now been relocated to a new ground-floor space. The redesigned family area includes books, board games and craft materials for younger guests, alongside hidden knitted red squirrels created by the “Deeside Knitwits”.
Room rates for the Coco Chanel-inspired suite start from £1,000 per night.
The opening reflects a growing trend for hotels to create immersive guestrooms inspired by fashion, art and cultural storytelling. Luxury hospitality brands are increasingly designing suites that function as experiential spaces rather than simply places to sleep, giving guests a deeper connection to heritage, creativity and local identity.
