Luxury travel company HunterMoss has announced a new Winter Ice Driving Tour for January 2027, taking guests on a six-night, small-group journey through the Austrian and Bavarian Alps.
Beginning and ending in Munich, the itinerary covers more than 750km of alpine roads and is designed around slower winter travel rather than high-speed routes or packed schedules.
The tour runs from January 12 to 18, 2027, and travels from Munich to Lake Fuschl, through the Salzburg region and into the Austrian Alps, before returning via the Bavarian Alps. It costs €17,990 per person.
HunterMoss positions the experience as a response to growing interest in cold-season travel, with travellers seeking quieter landscapes, fewer crowds and more time spent on the journey itself.
Guests travel in convoy, driving a selection of high-end SUVs along a mix of Autobahn, mountain passes and regional roads. The focus is on winter driving as a considered experience, with long stretches of open road, wide alpine scenery and regular pauses built into the schedule.
Driving days are balanced with extended stays at five-star spa and wellness retreats in both Austria and Germany, allowing time to rest between routes.
The journey begins with an overnight stay in Munich, where guests arrive and settle into a historic five-star hotel in the city’s old town. This first evening is intended as a gentle introduction, giving guests time to relax and meet fellow travellers before the driving element begins.
On the second day, the convoy departs Munich and heads south, using the Autobahn before climbing into the Alps via the Rossfeld Panorama Strasse. The day ends at a castle hotel on the shores of Lake Fuschl, near Salzburg. Here, guests stay in a lakeside setting and dine on traditional Austrian cuisine, with menus curated around regional ingredients.
From Lake Fuschl, the route moves deeper into the Austrian Alps. Winding mountain passes replace lakeside roads as guests travel towards a luxury nature and wellness resort in the Salzburg region, which serves as a base for the next three nights. This extended stop is a central part of the itinerary, designed to slow the pace of the journey and allow guests to choose how they spend their time.
During this part of the tour, guests can opt to take part in a two-day ice driving programme with Porsche. The Porsche Ice Driving Experience takes place on dedicated snow and ice circuits in the Austrian Alps and is led by professional instructors.
Participants rotate through a fleet that includes Boxsters, Caymans, 911s and GT3s, learning how to handle performance cars in extreme winter conditions. For those who prefer not to drive on ice, the days can be spent skiing or snowboarding on nearby slopes or remaining at the resort to use its spa and wellness facilities.
Evenings during the Salzburg stay focus on traditional alpine dining, with rustic menus that reflect local food culture. These meals are designed to complement the driving days, offering a relaxed end to time spent on the road or on the ice.
The final driving stage takes guests from the Austrian Alps back into Germany, following parts of the German Alpine Road towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The route combines smooth Autobahn sections with scenic mountain views before ending at a luxury spa retreat in the Bavarian Alps.
On the seventh day, guests can either transfer back to Munich for onward travel or extend their stay with an additional day of ice driving or skiing. Throughout the tour, HunterMoss provides professional tour leaders, private transfers where needed and full concierge support, with the aim of removing logistical distractions and allowing guests to focus on driving, landscape and place.
