Unyoked is building 30 off-grid cabins across England

Unyoked has announced a landmark partnership with Forestry England to launch a network of off-grid cabins across the nation’s forests over the next decade. The collaboration, which marks a first-of-its-kind initiative for the country’s largest land manager, aims to make nature immersion more accessible while encouraging a deeper appreciation for England’s woodland ecosystems.
Beginning in early 2026, the rollout will start with five secluded cabins in the first Forestry England location, followed by 25 more across five additional forest sites later that year.
Designed for one or two guests, the cabins will be positioned away from existing facilities and infrastructure, giving visitors the chance to fully disconnect and experience the forest in near-total solitude. Each location will feature no more than five cabins, ensuring both privacy and a minimal environmental footprint.
This new partnership builds on Unyoked’s international success, having cultivated a global following for its “time in the wild” philosophy — the idea that brief, regular escapes into nature can deliver measurable mental and physical health benefits. Studies have long shown that time spent outdoors reduces stress, improves focus and enhances emotional wellbeing, but recent research suggests its effects can rival more structured wellness practices. A 2024 study conducted by Unyoked in partnership with AllTrails found that time spent in their cabins led to a 50% higher improvement in wellbeing compared to interventions such as exercise, mindfulness or art therapy.
According to Mental Health UK, 91% of UK adults have experienced high or extreme stress in the past year, while nearly one in four feel unable to manage it effectively. The partnership between Unyoked and Forestry England is therefore both timely and strategic — combining sustainable tourism with public health impact.
“This partnership with Forestry England is a significant milestone in Unyoked’s mission to make nature a habitual, accessible part of everyday life,” says Unyoked co-founder Cam Grant. “England’s forests are rich in history and biodiversity, and we’re excited to provide unique spaces where people can disconnect, recharge and experience the profound wellness benefits of spending time in nature firsthand.”
Forestry England, which manages 1,500 woods and forests across the country, views the collaboration as a natural evolution of its work connecting communities with the environment. “We are thrilled to partner with Unyoked on this exciting initiative that will help more people experience the nation’s forests,” says Mike Seddon, Chief Executive of Forestry England. “Unyoked’s ground-breaking, low-impact cabins will allow guests to slow down, immerse themselves in nature and restore their wellbeing, all while respecting the environment.”
The cabins themselves embody Unyoked’s minimalist design ethos — solar-powered, equipped with composting systems, and built to blend seamlessly into the landscape. Guests can expect stripped-back comfort paired with locally sourced, sustainable amenities that reinforce the connection between human wellbeing and natural surroundings.
For Unyoked, the collaboration signals an expansion beyond its private land partnerships in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, opening access to public woodlands for the first time. Together, Unyoked and Forestry England hope the initiative will spark a wider cultural shift — one that values nature not as a luxury escape, but as a vital, restorative part of daily life.
Bookings for the first Unyoked cabins in Forestry England forests will open in 2026.
