China Tang at The Dorchester is marking its 20th anniversary with a series of cultural collaborations that extend far beyond dining.
Not only has the much-loved Cantonese restaurant commissioned Chinese fashion designer Huishan Zhang to create bespoke staff uniforms in his distinctive East-meets-West style, but from October, the restaurant will also host a literary supper club series in partnership with EA Festival.
The evenings will feature authors whose works explore Chinese culinary heritage and historical legacy, combining intimate author talks with specially curated menus in the restaurant's private dining rooms. The Mayfair restaurant, conceived by the late Sir David Tang in 2005, has undergone interior refurbishments including new carpets and updated design elements whilst maintaining its signature 1930s Shanghai Art Deco aesthetic.
Nathalie Ford, vp europe and middle east for China Tang, says: "Celebrating 20 years of China Tang honours not only Sir David's remarkable legacy but also the generations of guests who have made our restaurant a cherished part of their lives. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to delivering the same understated glamour, timeless hospitality and genuine warmth he envisioned."
The refurbishment maintains the restaurant's opulent interiors whilst updating elements to enhance the dining experience. The venue continues to serve its renowned Peking duck and dim sum alongside an extensive Cantonese menu in the main dining area, atmospheric bar and private rooms that have hosted countless celebrations since opening.
The anniversary comes during a period of significant expansion for the China Tang brand. Following the opening of Dim Sum by China Tang at Harrods Dining Hall in autumn 2024, the brand launched its first Middle East location at The Lana in Dubai this May.
