The Standard hotel group is set to expand its European footprint this spring with the launch of a new property in Belgium.

The Standard, Brussels will form part of the ZIN redevelopment project in the Belgian capital's Northern Quarter, a mixed-use complex built on the site of the former World Trade Centre.

Drawing inspiration from post-war modernism and brutalism, the design aims to reflect Brussels' architectural heritage while adding the Standard's signature flair. The Standard, Brussels The Standard, BrusselsThe design incorporates influences from 1970s American and postmodern Japanese architecture, alongside elements of 1930s Belgian design reminiscent of Henry Van de Velde's work. Wood and curtains are used extensively throughout to create warmth and comfort, while carpets reflect 1980s styling.

The 200-room property will occupy 28 storeys, offering varied views across the city. Its lobby is designed as a versatile space that transitions from day to night, suitable for both casual coffees and business meetings, with a bar connecting to the adjacent restaurant.

A notable feature will be a botanical garden on the ground floor, providing a tranquil urban retreat. All guest room furnishings have been custom designed for the project, featuring intricate wooden millwork and playful circular shapes. The Standard, Brussels The Standard, Brussels
Three dining concepts will be available, including Double Standard on the ground floor – a restaurant offering American and Belgian bar fare with an extensive beer selection, situated next to the mid-century modern lobby bar featuring wood accents, high-gloss finishes and red brick flooring. On the 29th floor, Lila29 restaurant and bar will provide 360-degree views of Brussels.

The Brussels property will also introduce a new concept for The Standard – extended-stay suites located on the top two floors. These fully furnished 50-square-foot accommodations are designed for guests staying weeks or months, featuring living rooms, workspaces and kitchenettes. Amenities include 24-hour concierge, weekly housekeeping and dining discounts.

Beyond Brussels, the brand has future developments planned for Lisbon, Mexico City, Tulum and Pattaya, along with branded residences in Miami, Lisbon, Mexico City, Phuket and Hua Hin.
