The Standard is set to open in Singapore, introducing a biophilic 'urban oasis' design concept that echoes its location near the city-state's UNESCO-listed Botanic Gardens. Olivia Palamountain reports

Opening in November, 2024 in Singapore, The Standard's latest property embodies the “City in a Garden” vision that this southeast Asian powerhouse is working towards.

Designed by the Standard International team in collaboration with the Ministry of Design, the architecture of the building celebrates this ethos though the incorporation of lush planting, floor-to-ceiling windows with views of greenery and an artistic landscaped walkway spanning two floors.

The 143-room property will house Kaya at The Standard, reimagining the traditional Japanese izakaya concept with regional ingredients. The restaurant and its adjacent Kaya Bar aim to blur conventional boundaries between casual dining and refined presentation, offering nigiri and robatayaki alongside craft cocktails.

The hotel's design, a collaboration between Standard International's in-house team and Ministry of Design, incorporates local artisans' work throughout the property and will showcase curated art installations.

Each room features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the pool and district's greenery, while Thai designer Shone Puipia has created unique staff uniforms blending traditional utility with contemporary vibrancy.

"We couldn't be more excited to open in Singapore," says Amar Lalvani, executive chairman of Standard International. "This city is going through an incredibly dynamic period and emerging into an important global commercial, cultural, and creative hub that's perfect for The Standard."
The property, located on Orange Grove Road, will also feature Café Standard, an all-day American bistro focusing on natural wines and craft beers. Room rates will start from SGD 272 (approximately £160).

Uniforms for The Standard, Singapore were designed by Shone Puipia and blend the spirit and utility of traditional uniforms blended with contrasting hues and textures.

This opening marks The Standard's third Asian property, following successful launches in Hua Hin (2021) and Bangkok (2022).
