The Expedition Cruise Network (ECN) has announced the addition of two new expedition cruise operators to its membership: Selar and Galaxy Expeditions.
Selar, set to launch in 2026, is pioneering what it calls the first fully sustainable collection of luxury polar ships and expeditions.
Founded by Sophie Galvagnon, the first female captain to sail the Arctic, alongside entrepreneurs Julia Bijaoui and Quentin Vacher, the company aims to revolutionise polar cruising with sustainable technology. The operator will introduce ships powered by five solid sails covered in 20,000 square feet of solar panels, allowing them to harness sun and wind energy.
According to Selar, these vessels will cruise without noise, vibration or odour, reducing CO2 emissions by 90% compared to other Arctic cruise ships."Selar is excited to empower collective business growth through ECN and shape the future of our industry together!" says Sophie Galvagnon, CEO at Selar.
Galaxy Expeditions, formerly known as Galagents Galapagos Cruises, brings nearly 20 years of experience in Latin American voyages to the network. The company operates a fleet of luxury catamarans, premium-class yachts and specialised dive vessels, each with a maximum capacity of 16 passengers.Diego Freire, UK/USA business developer for Galaxy Expeditions, says: "Galapagos isn't just a place to visit; it's a place to feel, explore and remember forever."
Akvile Marozaite, CEO and co-founder of Expedition Cruise Network, welcomed both companies, noting: "Selar brings innovative experiences to the network that really highlight the sustainable and technological advancements in the expedition industry, whilst Galaxy Expeditions is a true advocate for unique and authentic across Latin America. They are both incredible editions to the network."
Launched in April 2023, the Expedition Cruise Network now represents 30 expedition cruise operators and counts over 1,700 travel trade members, including travel agents, tour operators and travel designers.
