Shake Shack is taking to the skies in a new partnership with Delta Air Lines, offering its signature cheeseburgers to first-class passengers on flights over 900 miles. Olivia Palamountain reports
Delta is elevating in-flight dining by bringing Shake Shack's signature cheeseburgers to first-class passengers.
The collaboration launches on December 1, 2024, on flights departing from Boston, with plans to expand across other US markets throughout 2025.
First-class passengers on routes more than 900 miles can pre-select the Shake Shack Cheeseburger up to seven days before departure using the Fly Delta app.
The in-flight burger features a 100% Angus beef patty with cheese on a toasted potato bun, accompanied by customisable toppings including tomato, lettuce and Shake Shack's ShackSauce served separately. The meal includes chips, a Caesar salad and a dark chocolate brownie inspired by the brand's Shack Attack desserts.
"Burgers are one of the top ordered menu items we offer, and we're thrilled to elevate the offering with Shake Shack," says Stephanie Laster, managing director of Onboard Service at Delta.
Michael Kark, president of Global Licensing at Shake Shack, adds: "Taking our beloved cheeseburger to new heights, Shake Shack is proud to partner with Delta as we elevate the in-flight dining and hospitality experience for travellers across the country."
The partnership builds on Delta's existing relationship with Union Square Hospitality Group, founded by Shake Shack creator Danny Meyer, which already provides meals on select Delta flights from JFK airport.Delta has also refreshed its one-of-a-kind seasonal wine programme in time for Christmas, adding new snacks and meals designed in partnership with award-winning chefs.
In partnership with master sommelier Andrea Robinson, Delta teams tasted thousands of wines to curate a list of 20, ranging from rare white wines from Tuscany to bold California cabernets.
“Memorable meals are part of the travel experience – whether you’re 35,000 feet in the air or exploring the streets of your destination,” said Kristen Manion Taylor, S.V.P. of Inflight Service at Delta Air Lines. “This is why we work with the best chefs, sommeliers and partners to keep our onboard food and beverage programme fresh – because a thoughtfully curated in-flight menu can turn routine travel into an unforgettable journey."
