Delta Air Lines is set to transform the flying experience with a comprehensive redesign of its aircraft interiors, debuting this autumn ahead of the airline's centennial anniversary in 2025.
The new design promises substantial improvements across all cabin classes, from updated seating materials to enhanced lighting and a renewed colour palette.
The redesign aims to create a welcoming and thoughtful atmosphere that feels "fresh, elevated, and timeless," says to Mauricio Parise, vice president of Customer Experience Design at Delta. The new cabin will feature breathable materials, comfortable memory-foam cushions on widebody jets, and lighting designed to promote relaxation across the fleet.
"As we embark on our next century of flying, this refreshed cabin interior infuses utility with beauty," Parise explains. The design is based on extensive customer feedback and research, reflecting evolving tastes and expectations.A key feature of the new design is the enhanced lighting programme, crafted to create a cohesive and calming onboard environment.
The mood lighting is designed to suit each phase of the flight, from a warm, inviting atmosphere during boarding to a candlelit ambience during mealtimes, and a gradual transition mimicking sunrise for wake-up times.
Delta is also reimagining its brand colours, opting for a softer, warmer, and more contemporary palette with natural materials such as wool.
Subtle touches throughout the cabin, including Delta widget logos and seat tags, will create distinctions between cabin classes.New design motifs will feature on bulkheads, including the "Infinite Grid" pattern welcoming passengers onboard, and the "Celestial Sky" pattern evoking the excitement of flying.
Lavatories will also receive a refresh, with bright walls and an accent wall in the Celestial Sky pattern.
The new cabin design will first appear on a narrowbody Boeing 757 aircraft flying domestic and short-haul international routes in late 2024. In early 2025, a widebody Airbus A350 will debut the new design on long-haul international routes.Delta aims to update its entire fleet with the new design over the next few years, creating a uniform experience across all aircraft types.
"Delta has taken the time to develop every detail of our new interiors," Parise says. "The team was intentional in creating an experience that mimics our customers' lifestyles and puts them at ease as soon as they board our aircraft."
