Dyson looks to disrupt the premium audio market with the launch of its first-ever headphones, customisable in more than 2000 colours. Olivia Palamountain reports

Dyson is moving into the high-end audio space with its latest innovation, the OnTrac headphones, featuring best-in-class noise cancellation and a battery life of up to 55 hours.

The OnTrac’s Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology utilises eight microphones sampling external sound 384,000 times per second, combined with carefully designed internal geometry to cancel up to 40dB of unwanted noise.

The headphones feature 40mm neodymium speaker drivers and can reproduce frequencies from 6 Hz to 21,000 Hz, promising a rich and immersive audio experience.Dyson OnTrac headphones The next-gen tech is married with a customisable aesthetic that allows users able to choose from more than 2,000 colour combinations for the outer caps and ear cushions.

The headphones come in four base colour ways, including CNC Aluminium, Copper, Nickel, and a Ceramic Cinnabar variant with a ceramic-feel painted finish.Jake Dyson, the company’s chief engineer, says:”Dyson’s audio engineering mission is to preserve the integrity of the artist’s sound wave, free from interference. We also wanted to create a set of headphones that people would cherish, be excited by, and be proud of.

With over 30 years of experience in aeroacoustics, we’ve mastered sound physics. By reducing noise through in-house anechoic chambers and expert engineers, we’ve applied and further expanded our audio knowledge to develop the Dyson OnTrac™ headphones. Our first over-ear audio only headphones deliver best-in-class ANC, exceptional sound quality, and all-day comfort through unique materials, design and customisation.”Dyson OnTrac headphonesComfort has been a key consideration in the design. The OnTrac has been certified comfortable by US Ergonomics, with high-grade foam cushions, multi-pivot gimbal arms, and a unique battery placement in the headband for even weight distribution.

The OnTrac is complemented by the MyDyson app, which offers features such as real-time sound tracking to monitor volume levels and alert users to potentially harmful noise exposure.Dyson OnTrac headphonesThe app also allows users to choose between three custom EQ modes: Bass Boost, Neutral, and Enhanced.

Additional features include head detection for automatic play/pause functionality, an intuitive joystick for controls, and dual beam-forming microphones for clear voice calls.

The Dyson OnTrac headphones are set to hit the market next month, with pricing yet to be announced.
