Soho House is expanding into South East Asia, building an elite creative community hub in the heart of the Thai capital. Rose Dykins reports
British hospitality brand Soho House is launching a members’ club in Bangkok from December 2022 – its first location in South East Asia.
Housed in the quaint building of the former Eugenia Hotel in the Thai capital’s vibrant Sukhumvit neighbourhood, Soho House Bangkok will feature event space, a pool terrace and stylish spots for dining and drinks.
Soho House is opening a Bangkok location in response to the existing pool of Cities Without Houses members who live in Bangkok. Cities Without Houses members access Soho House members clubs, bedrooms and studios when they travel internationally to meet like-minded people from a global creative community.
The group will offer advice and feedback for the development of Soho House Bangkok to ensure the property faithfully represents the local community in the city.
Soho House founder and CEO, Nick Jones, says: “I have wanted to expand Soho House in Southeast Asia for a long time so this is an exciting moment for me and our members everywhere.
“To have a truly diverse and inclusive global membership, we need to represent cultures and creative communities from all parts of the world. Bangkok has such a vibrant and progressive energy, full of Thai warmth and kindness, and I can’t wait to welcome members from the city into our new House.”
Members enter Soho House Bangkok via the reception area and atrium to find a bright and airy Garden Bar, an outdoor space to relax and enjoy a drink. The Lounge bar with its darker coloured tones is well suited for the evening and offers light bites.
Both bars open up in the Pool Garden area, a centrepiece of Soho House Bangkok, with lush greenery and unique marble flooring which extends into a 12-metre pool.
The main dining room, House Kitchen, occupies the first floor serving Soho House classics as well as local recipes. Two private-dining rooms are available for members looking to host larger group events.
The second floor of the members club has an intimate lounge bar for a pre-event drinks, which is next door to the main events room. Featuring banquette seating and a stage, this space will host some of the venue’s 30 monthly cultural offerings.
Curated by the Soho House team, these will offer members an inspiring creative focal point within the city where they can explore new ideas in music, film, fashion and art.
The interiors of Soho House Bangkok are created by Soho House Design, the brand’s in-house team. Inspired by the Thai capital’s local crafts, the décor throughout features silk fabrics, local ceramic works, native wood joinery and Thai architectural details. Tropical patterns for the interiors and abundant local plants dotted around the property create the feeling of a calming sanctuary within the city.
Soho House Bangkok is only accessible to members and their guests. Local House membership gives access to Soho House Bangkok, and costs 78,000 baht (£1,800) per year while every House membership entitles the member to visit Soho Houses around the world (costing 135,000 baht, £3,117).
Members can also make use of the SH.APP (Soho House app) to connect with other members wherever they are in the world.
