Moored at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show, the 72-metre Azteca super yacht is available for sale via Edmiston for Bitcoin-only, with an equivalent price tag of €65 million. Jenny Southan reports
As Globetrender predicted in its premium newsletter VOLT, “Crypto Trips” is a rising trend in the world of travel whereby everything from private jet flights to hotel stays are becoming available to buy with cryptocurrency.
Crypto payments are also increasing in the yachting industry but if a purchase went through via broker Edmiston, Azteca would be the largest yacht ever to be bought with Bitcoin.
Antonio Yturbe Redo, broker at Edmiston, said in a statement: “This is an exciting prospect for many of our clients and presents a unique opportunity for a yacht of this size to be sold in Bitcoin only.”
Why buy a yacht with Bitcoin? Many people have accummulated great wealth in cryptocurrencies but at the moment there aren’t that many ways to actually spend it. The transaction is also anonymous so for some buyers, this could be an advantage. In total, Azteca can accommodate 16 guests across eight cabins, including an owner’s suite with two bathrooms and a fold-down balcony.Designed by Nuvolari and Lenard, Azteca has a main salon with a piano and a generous lounge area, as well as a separate dining room, a full-beam sky lounge, a library, a cinema room and an elevator. The boat also has a spa, hair salon, sun deck and open-air hot tub.A 100 sqm beach club provides another indoor/outdoor space, with room for loungers and easy access to the water so people can go swimming, step aboard tenders and use water toys such as Sea-Doos, jet skis and an inflatable climbing wall.During her most recent refit in 2021, Azteca had her main engines rebuilt. She also comes with a range of 6,500nm at a speed of 14 knots, making her a true “global cruiser”.
Edmiston has been involved in some of the most important yacht sales, charter and new construction transactions of the last 20 years, and continues to “inject innovation and energy into every one of its activities”.
