Italian ski resort Courmayeur Mont Blanc is promoting itself as a place for digital nomads to take an alpine workation. Jenny Southan reports

Tapping into the remote working trend, Courmayeur Mont Blanc, which is situated on the Italian side of Mont Blanc, is launching a new initiative designed to offer the “ultimate balance of work, life and ski”.

New for this year, guests will have access to their own “alpine office” with carefully tailored “workation stations” in local chalets. (The pictures here were just part of a campaign shoot but Globetrender likes the idea of working in the snow.)

Using Courmayeur as an HQ, the idea is that digital nomads can experience the serenity of the mountains, hit the slopes for some fresh air and exercise, and hopefully be more productive as a consequence.

Courmayeur says its smart working initiative has been designed to “provide city slickers, entrepreneurs, and creatives alike with a fresh perspective and healthier relationship with work”.

A brand-new workspace has even been designed in the Skyway Monte Bianco, a state-of-the-art cableway connecting the Italian Alps to the French. Via a “Skyway Smart-Working Ticket”, people will be able to send emails from an impressive 2,200 metres up at the Pavilion station, with coffee available on demand.

Instead of sitting at your desk for lunch, there is the option of a meadow picnic or a meal in a local cafe.

Mayor of Courmayeur Mont Blanc, Roberto Rota, said: “We are delighted to be launching our new smart-working initiative at Courmayeur Mont Blanc. Covid-19 has forced us to adapt, reflect on our tourism model and think long-term – in light of this we decided to launch a new experience really in line with our values.

“As a community, we are extremely connected to the Mont Blanc and our natural environment which provides so much harmony in our day-to-day. Our new workation packages offer our guests a chance to really embed themselves in our lifestyle and hopefully provide a bit of peace and serenity to the working week

Courmayeur says it has designed a selection of alpine offices, all fully equipped with comfortable working spaces and high-speed wifi. A number of hotel workation packages are also available throughout the autumn and winter months.

Auberge de la Maison’s alpine chalets are located in the heart of the valley. Guests can work outside in the fresh mountain air while wrapped up warm in one of Auberge de la Maison’s personalised cloaks.

Hotel Au Coeur des Neiges offers spacious private chalets and those who are looking to work with a view of the White Chain can receive a 10 per cent discount if they stay for at least two nights.

Hotel Svizzero provides private chalets with a small kitchen and a welcoming team to look after young professionals throughout the working day.
