Instagram now has over a billion active monthly users and the travel influencer game is stronger than ever. Recognising the power of photogenic locations, the Wi-Ki-Woo hotel in Ibiza has taken a “social first” approach to design, using a palette of mint green and candy pink to make it look cool in photos.
Reopening for the summer 2019 season in May, the one-year-old Wi-Ki-Woo hotel was conceived by Ibiza’s Ocean Beach Club founder Tony Truman.
Located by the beach on San Antonio, it has intentionally set out to attract snap-happy millennial partygoers who want to look their best frolicking in the pool with giant inflatables.Truman says: “I first came to Ibiza in the 1980s. It was the birth of Ibiza as a prestigious party destination and since then it has been my dream to open a boutique hotel on the island.
“Wi-Ki-Woo came about from my desire to create my own ‘Club Tropicana’, bringing luxury and individuality to the San Antonio beachfront. We offer affordable quality and a quirky mix of the old and the new Ibiza.”Thought has also been put into the rooms, which feature pink Smeg minibars, trendy Cowshed bathing products, GHD hairdryers, Smart TVs and state-of-the-art fingerprint door lock systems.
Stays are affordable (from £140 a night) meaning the average holidaymaker can have the chance of looking glamorous. (There isn’t a scrap of brown or beige in sight.)The Wi-Ki-Woo isn’t the only hotel on the island to go after the Instagram crowd. The Paradiso Ibiza Art hotel also exhibits art deco flair and endless pop art locations for photo shoots.
Designed by Spanish studio Ilmiodesign, it opened in 2018 and is splashed with strawberry and guava, while rooms are punctuated by neon furniture. A collection of modern art by the likes of Marylou Faure, Marco Torres and Yoko Honda adorns the walls.
There’s even a tattoo parlour and a poolside outdoor cinema. But most quirky is an artist “micro residency” programme that sees creatives given the opportunity to live and work for free in a glass-walled hotel room painted Gen Z Yellow.

Meanwhile, Cubanito Ibiza Suites melds Caribbean and Cuban flavours, with equally bold rooms decorated in sunset orange and peppermint green. There are also feature walls papered in palm print. Amenities include bottles of Havana Club rum and, again, Smeg fridges. A must-have for Instagrammers, apparently…
