Just when you thought the world has enough luxury hotel brands, Minor Hotels has announced the global launch of the Wolseley Hotels, with its first property set to open in New York City in early 2027.

The Wolseley Hotel New York will be located near Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan, marking the brand’s debut and positioning the city as its flagship destination. The opening will also introduce the Wolseley restaurant and bar to the US for the first time, expanding the London institution onto an international stage.

The hotel will occupy a historic building at 130 West 44th Street, originally built in 1905 as the clubhouse for the Lambs Club. Designed by architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, the site has long been linked to Broadway and New York’s creative industries, giving the project a strong cultural backdrop.

The property will have 76 guest rooms and suites, designed to balance traditional style with a more modern approach. Interiors will focus on craftsmanship and careful detailing, with layouts intended to feel both spacious and functional. The aim is to create a setting that reflects the brand’s identity while meeting the expectations of contemporary travellers.

At the centre of the hotel will be the Wolseley New York restaurant, which will act as the main social space. This will be the first US outpost of the concept originally established in London’s Piccadilly. The restaurant will offer all-day dining alongside cocktails, following a European grand café format that combines formal service with a more relaxed atmosphere.

The hotel will also include a cellar-level bar designed as a more private space, as well as a wellness centre focused on guest comfort and wellbeing. These elements are intended to complement the main restaurant and create a range of spaces for different types of guests.

The Wolseley Hotels brand rides on the reputation of its London namesake, known for its Art Deco design and long-standing role as a meeting place for business, cultural and public figures. In New York, this concept will be adapted to reflect the character of the city, combining British influences with a more international outlook.

Guests can expect personalised service, detailed in-room features and a strong focus on food and drink as a central part of the hotel experience. The restaurant is expected to play a key role in shaping the identity of the property, rather than acting as a secondary offering.

The New York opening will act as the starting point for a wider expansion of the Wolseley Hotels brand. Minor Hotels has confirmed plans to develop additional properties in major cities across Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. Each location will follow a similar model, combining dining, design and service into a single hospitality concept.

The brand will also be part of Minor Hotels’ existing loyalty programme, Minor DISCOVERY, which sits within the wider GHA DISCOVERY network.

The launch reflects a broader trend in hospitality where established restaurant brands are expanding into hotels, using food and drink as a defining feature of the guest experience. By building a hotel around a well-known dining concept, operators are aiming to attract both travellers and local visitors, creating spaces that function as social hubs as well as places to stay.
