Claridge's hotel to open bakery for the elite
Claridge's has opened a standalone bakery in Mayfair led by Richard Hart of Copenhagen's Hart Bageri – and former head baker at San Francisco's Tartine – serving British classics alongside sourdough loaves and sweet treats. Olivia Palamountain reports
Jammy Dodger tarts, Marmite cheese straws and Yorkshire pudding wraps filled with roast beef are now available at a new bakery from Claridge's hotel in Mayfair, where acclaimed baker Richard Hart has opened his first London venture.
Claridge's Bakery, located on Brook's Mews, is led by Hart as executive baker and creative director, alongside head baker Frédéric Doncel-Latorre. The opening signals an expansion of the hotel's food offering beyond its main building, with a focus on everyday British baking.
The menu also features Bloomers, Granary loaves, Malt loaf, Belgian buns, iced fingers and Hart's sourdough breads. All items are baked on site and available throughout the day for takeaway, aimed at both neighbourhood customers and visitors to the hotel.
The bakery has been designed as a more informal counterpart to the hotel's dining spaces, with an emphasis on accessibility and regular visits. The menu reflects Hart's London upbringing and draws on the traditions of classic British bakeries, whilst also referencing Claridge's own culinary heritage.
Richard Hart says: "Opening Claridge's Bakery feels like the moment when all the work, the recipes, and the ideas finally meet the people they're meant for. Claridge's has always stood for a certain kind of hospitality and bringing that spirit into the Bakery has been a joy."

Alongside breads and sweet bakes, savoury offerings include Scotch eggs and a Claridge's sausage roll. Lunch options include sandwiches, quiches and rotating hot specials designed for takeaway.
The opening marks Hart's return to the UK after working globally across Copenhagen, San Francisco and Mexico City. He previously served as head baker at Tartine in San Francisco, before co-founding Hart Bageri in Copenhagen with René Redzepi of Noma. He is also the founder of Green Rhino bakery in Mexico City.
Thomas Kochs, managing director at Claridge's, describes it as "a significant moment for Claridge's".
Claridge's Bakery is now open daily on Brook's Mews, adding a neighbourhood-focused dimension to the Mayfair hotel.
