Every villa at Mondrian Maldives will have a private pool

August 13, 2025

Ennismore has announced the launch of Mondrian Maldives, set to open in 2026 on Kuredhivaru Island, one of only a handful of exclusive islands within the remote Noonu Atoll. Olivia Palamountain reports

Mondrian is the latest deluxe hotel brand to get a foothold in the booming Maldives market, signalled by a 105-villa resort, located 45 minutes by seaplane from Malé International Airport. The development represents an unusual transformation approach, with the property initially operating as Kuredhivaru Resort & Spa under Ennismore management before being reimagined as a Mondrian.

The island previously operated under the Mövenpick flag and will continue as part of Accor's ALL loyalty programme during the transition period, demonstrating the owner's commitment to elevating the destination into a lifestyle brand concept.

Mondrian Maldives will feature an all-pool villa configuration across its accommodation, with 30 beach pool villas set within tropical greenery, 72 overwater pool villas positioned above turquoise waters, and three-bedroom beach pool residences offering direct beach access. The universal private pool concept ensures every guest has exclusive water access within their villa.

Phil Zrihen, brand chief operating officer for Mondrian Hotels at Ennismore, says: "Surrounded by stunning beaches and turquoise waters, Mondrian Maldives will create the perfect sanctuary for our guests. Where bold design intersects with island style, the resort realises new dream-like spaces where guests can escape into nature's wonders on a secluded private island."

The resort will incorporate Mondrian's signature approach of cultural connectivity through programming that reflects Maldivian heritage and traditions. Facilities will include four restaurants and bar venues, a spa, diving centre, yoga pavilion, tennis and volleyball courts, and dedicated children's club facilities.

The Maldives expansion continues Mondrian's global growth strategy, with the brand currently operating ten properties across established cultural destinations including Singapore, Los Angeles, Miami, Doha, Mexico City and Hong Kong. Additional openings are planned for Abu Dhabi, Tulum, Dubai and Australia's Gold Coast.

The Noonu Atoll location provides access to pristine diving sites and relatively untouched reef systems, offering guests exploration opportunities beyond the typical Maldivian resort experience. The atoll's remote positioning ensures minimal development density compared to more established Maldivian resort regions.

The property's phased transformation approach allows for continued operations whilst implementing Mondrian's design philosophy and cultural programming, ensuring seamless service delivery throughout the brand transition period.
