Maldives resort now offers entire island buyout for £1.3 million
InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort has launched a private island buyout service, allowing guests to hire the entire 81-villa property for exclusive use. Olivia Palamountain reports
InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort, situated on the southernmost tip of Raa Atoll, is offering the complete island experience for the first time, with rates starting from US$1.6 million (approximately £1.3 million) including taxes and service charges.
The buyout includes access to all 81 beach, lagoon, and overwater villas and residences, each featuring private pools, dedicated butler service, and luxury Byredo amenities. Accommodation ranges from one-bedroom overwater pool villas to three-bedroom royal beachfront pool residences.
Guests receive exclusive use of the resort's extensive facilities, including nine dining venues ranging from The Lighthouse Restaurant with 360-degree island views to an interactive Fish Market where guests select fresh seafood with expert chef guidance.
A private seaplane transfer from Malé airport is included, with guests accessing a dedicated InterContinental seaplane lounge.
The buyout package includes daily gourmet breakfast, complimentary non-motorised water activities, and access to facilities including the overwater AVI Spa, fitness centre, and Planet Trekkers Kids' Club for children aged 4-12.
The resort's UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve location and dedicated manta ray sanctuary provides guests with exclusive access to one of the world's most spectacular marine environments. The property features its own on-site Manta Trust team, offering private snorkelling and diving sessions tailored to different experience levels.Between December and April, manta rays migrate through the area during northeast monsoon months, providing guests with opportunities for close encounters with these magnificent creatures, as well as whale sharks and sea turtles that frequent the colourful coral house reef.
Activities can be completely customised, spanning dolphin cruises, turtle safaris, PADI dive courses and underwater photography, alongside land-based options like aerial yoga and cooking classes with the resort's culinary team.
