Miraval opens first international resort at The Red Sea
Wellness brand Miraval has launched its first property outside the US, bringing its mindfulness-focused approach to Saudi Arabia's fast-growing Red Sea destination.
Miraval Resorts and Spas has opened its first international property with the launch of Miraval The Red Sea on Saudi Arabia's Shura Island, marking a significant milestone for both the wellness brand and the Kingdom's expanding luxury tourism sector.
Located on Saudi Arabia's west coast, the adults-only retreat sits between desert landscapes, lagoons and mangrove forests within The Red Sea destination. The opening represents Miraval's first venture beyond the US and introduces the brand's wellness-focused philosophy to a new international audience.
Miraval has built its reputation over the past three decades through programmes centred on mindfulness, personal growth and intentional living. At the new resort, these principles have been adapted to reflect the culture and environment of Saudi Arabia, creating an experience that combines the brand's established wellness approach with local traditions and heritage.

The resort comprises 180 guestrooms, suites and villas designed to blend into the surrounding natural environment. Created by Foster + Partners, with interiors by Rockwell Group, the architecture draws inspiration from coral formations, desert landscapes and the coastal setting. Natural stone, wood, woven textures and mineral finishes feature throughout the property, while open spaces are designed to maximise natural light and sea breezes.
A central feature of the resort is a contemplative labyrinth, providing a dedicated space for walking meditation and quiet reflection. The design reflects Miraval's focus on creating environments that encourage guests to slow down and reconnect with themselves.
Guests can build personalised wellness itineraries with the help of dedicated Experience Planners, selecting from a range of activities that combine mindfulness, culture and outdoor adventure. Programmes include Arabic calligraphy workshops, heritage storytelling sessions, desert stargazing and perfume-making experiences inspired by regional traditions. Outdoor activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding and zip lining are also available.

The resort's wellness offering is anchored by the Life in Balance Spa, a 40,000 sqft facility that is the largest dedicated spa on Shura Island. The spa features 39 indoor and outdoor treatment rooms and combines Miraval's signature therapies with regional wellness traditions. Treatments include hammam rituals alongside desert-inspired scrubs and restorative therapies designed to support relaxation and recovery.
Food and nutrition are also central to the guest experience. Rosemary, the resort's main restaurant, serves a plant-forward menu focused on seasonal ingredients and balanced nutrition. Other dining venues include Palm Court Café and Coral Cove, which transitions from daytime dining to evening social gatherings. Guests can also participate in workshops at the Life in Balance Culinary Kitchen, where activities range from Saudi coffee ceremonies and alcohol-free mixology classes to mindful sushi-making and regional tasting experiences.
Miraval The Red Sea forms part of The Red Sea destination, one of Saudi Arabia's largest tourism developments. Covering more than 28,000 square kilometres of coastline, islands, mountains and desert, the project has been designed around regenerative tourism principles. Visitor numbers across the destination will be capped at one million annually as part of efforts to protect the surrounding natural environment.

Shura Island, where the resort is located, is expected to become the centrepiece of the wider destination. Future plans include additional luxury resorts, marinas, leisure facilities and Saudi Arabia's first island-based 18-hole championship golf course, Shura Links.
Juan Paolo Alfonso, general manager of Miraval The Red Sea, says: “Miraval The Red Sea has been thoughtfully designed as a place of transformation. Every element of the guest journey has been created to support deeper connection, presence, and personal growth, while embracing the traditions, landscapes, and cultural richness of the region. Opening the first Miraval destination outside of the U.S. in Saudi Arabia is both a privilege and a responsibility, and we are proud to introduce a wellness experience that reflects the Kingdom’s extraordinary natural heritage and resonates with the region’s longstanding spirit of hospitality, setting a new global standard for mindful luxury.”
All stays include accommodation, meals, wellness programming and airport transfers from Red Sea International Airport, alongside a resort credit that can be used towards spa treatments and specialist experiences. As part of Hyatt's luxury portfolio, the opening signals Miraval's ambition to expand its approach to wellness tourism into new global markets.
