Lufthansa Technik's new cabin concept elevates VIP group travel

April 27, 2026

Lufthansa Technik has revealed The BOW, a modular narrowbody VIP cabin concept developed with Designworks, offering flexible layouts for group travel including corporate teams, sports squads and touring artists.

Lufthansa Technik has introduced a new narrowbody aircraft interior concept called The BOW, developed in collaboration with Designworks, a BMW Group company. Presented at the Aircraft Interiors Expo, the concept focuses on redefining VIP air travel for groups rather than individuals, reflecting growing demand for shared yet high-end flying experiences.

The BOW is designed as a flexible platform that can be adapted to different types of travellers, including corporate teams, sports organisations and music groups. Instead of a fixed cabin layout, the design allows operators to reconfigure spaces depending on the purpose of each journey. This includes adjusting the number of private suites, expanding social areas or creating more formal meeting environments.

At the centre of the concept is a modular approach to cabin architecture. Operators can tailor layouts, seating arrangements, colour schemes and functional zones to suit specific needs. This means a single aircraft could support a range of uses, from business meetings in the air to more relaxed, social travel settings.

The cabin is organised into several distinct areas, beginning with a reception and lobby space that acts as an entry point. This zone includes a bar-style setting and integrated digital features, designed to create a hospitality-led first impression. A central lounge follows, equipped with large screens and a table that can be reconfigured into smaller sections. This area is intended to support both work and dining, allowing it to shift between different uses during a flight.

Private suites form a key part of The BOW concept. Each suite can accommodate one or two passengers and is designed to support both rest and interaction. Features include personal storage for items such as equipment or instruments, as well as adjustable partitions that allow users to control privacy levels. Some elements can be raised or lowered automatically, enabling the cabin to transition between open and enclosed configurations. In total, the layout can accommodate up to 28 passengers.

Technology is integrated throughout the cabin using Lufthansa Technik’s “nice” system, which connects lighting, climate, seating and entertainment controls into a single interface. Hidden touch panels are built into surfaces and only appear when needed, while wireless charging, curved OLED displays and advanced lighting systems are embedded into the design. The concept also includes a sound system designed to deliver even audio coverage throughout the cabin.

According to Fabian Nagel, vice president sales VIP and special aircraft services at Lufthansa Technik, the aim is to offer a new level of flexibility for group travel. He says: “With ‘The BOW’, we are elevating group centric VIP travel to a completely new level. This concept offers customers unprecedented flexibility and allows operators to tailor every mission with an experience that is both highly functional and luxurious.”
