Kyrgyzstan has emerged as the breakout destination for solo travellers in 2026, according to new data from Flash Pack.

The Central Asian nation tops Flash Pack's list of 2026 destinations, surpassing perennial favourite Sri Lanka, which holds second place. The data reflects a growing trend towards far-flung, off-the-beaten-track destinations over classic European holidays, with 39% of Brits reportedly unfamiliar with Kyrgyzstan despite its increasing appeal.

Lee Thompson, co-founder of Flash Pack, says: "We're seeing a real shift in how British solo travellers explore the world. Travellers are moving beyond quick, easy European breaks and seeking deeper, story-driven adventures. Albania may have started the trend, but it's destinations like Kyrgyzstan, Jordan and now Armenia that are defining the next chapter, proving that UK travellers are chasing meaning over mileage. Through it all, Sri Lanka remains untouchable, holding its place as our best-selling destination for three years running."

The data reveals continued growth in off-the-beaten-track travel throughout 2025, with Sri Lanka recording a 30% increase in bookings. Albania saw the most dramatic rise, with bookings up 300% this year, alongside increases for Jordan, Morocco and Egypt.

Solo travel demographics are also shifting, with the average age of Flash Pack customers rising from 39 to 41. Trips designed for over-50s now make up 10% of the company's total audience, with Japan emerging as the top destination for this age group.

Thompson continues: "Among our over-50s travellers, Japan stands out above all others. It's the number-one destination for forming meaningful, lasting friendships – our Japan trip scores an exceptional 9.8 out of 10 for group dynamic. Japan has this incredible energy that brings people together. Whether it's sharing sushi-making sessions with local chefs or sitting down to lunch with sumo wrestlers, these moments break down barriers. Our over-50s group is willing to splurge on once-in-a-lifetime destinations and bucket list experiences more than our over-30s audience."
