United is upping the ante with a design overhaul of its Boeing 787-9 fleet, featuring cabin upgrades across all classes in a 'nose-to-tail transformation'.
The new United Polaris Studio suites will be 25% larger than standard business class seats, complete with privacy doors, companion ottomans, and 27-inch 4K OLED screens - the largest among US carriers. Eight studio suites will be positioned in the first row of each business class section.
The enhanced aircraft will also feature 99 total premium seats - the highest percentage among US carriers - alongside innovative amenities including wireless charging throughout multiple cabin classes and Starlink connectivity for MileagePlus members.
United Polaris Studio passengers will receive exclusive Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche service paired with Champagne Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé, alongside access to a grab-and-go snack bar featuring brands such as Garretts, Community and Joe & Seph's. The airline has invested more than US$150 million in food and beverage improvements this year alone.
"We already deliver a superior international experience and fly to the most places across the Atlantic and Pacific - these new innovations provide a more premium experience overall, give customers even more reasons to choose United, and set our airline up to grow into the next decade and beyond," says Andrew Nocella, EVP and chief commercial officer at United.
All economy passengers will benefit from 13-inch 4K OLED screens (described as the largest economy class screens in the world) alongside three ways to charge electrical devices and Bluetooth connectivity in every seat. Premium Plus seats will feature privacy dividers with built-in reading lights, whilst standard United Polaris suites receive sliding doors and 19-inch 4K OLED touchscreens.
United expects delivery of the first 787-9 with the Elevated interior before the end of 2025, with inaugural international passenger flights planned for 2026 on routes from San Francisco to Singapore and London. The airline anticipates at least 30 aircraft with these interiors joining its fleet by 2027, with all future 787 deliveries receiving the upgrade.
The enhanced aircraft will also feature United's first widebody implementation of free Starlink connectivity, providing internet access over oceans and polar regions previously unreachable by traditional signals.
