White Desert has announced the "Dr. Jones Collection", a range of South American experiences and its first venture beyond the Polar regions.
The inaugural "Peru to Patagonia" itinerary will take travellers on a 12-day journey across some of the continent's most remote and diverse landscapes, combining what the company describes as "the glamour of 1940s aviation with movie-set adventure."
Guests will travel aboard a luxuriously-refitted Dakota aircraft capable of landing on remote airstrips, allowing access to some of the continent's least explored locations. The expedition begins in Peru, where travellers will hike through Amazonian cloud forests near the Gocta waterfall (the third highest in the world) to discover ancient mummies. The journey continues to a custom-built Dune Camp situated beside an oasis, where guests can dive for prized fan shells.
Further destinations include the salt flats of Chile's Atacama Desert, offering "unparalleled star gazing" opportunities and hikes to volcanic hot springs. The adventure concludes in Patagonia's Torres del Paine, where travellers can ride horses with local gauchos against a backdrop of "tumbling glaciers that cascade into the open sea."
"Just as we have done in Antarctica, I wanted to create a journey that was as adventurous as it was luxurious – and in Dr. Jones, we have found the perfect balance," says White Desert founder, Patrick Woodhead. "Even on the reconnaissance for the journey, we visited landscapes that I never knew existed. They were just so surreal!"
According to the company, expert pilots and crew, along with a White Desert guide, will accompany guests throughout the journey, "ensuring a level of comfort and safety one can expect from a world-class Antarctic operator with 20 years of experience."The Dr. Jones Collection will offer three adventures beginning in September 2025, priced at US$49,950 per person.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, White Desert was established by record-breaking polar explorer Patrick Woodhead and has been Certified CarbonNeutral since 2007.
