California's Post Ranch Inn has drawn on its Native American heritage to offer guests Shamanic experiences rooted in ancient traditions, such as fire ceremonies and 'herbal spiritual journeys'. Olivia Palamountain reports

The historic Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California, one of only 11 hotels in the US to receive three Keys in the new Michelin Guide hotel rankings, is offering guests a series of Spiritual Exploration experiences rooted in Native American traditions and the healing energy of the Big Sur landscape.

The offerings honour the property's heritage, which began in 1850 when Connecticut sailor William B. Post married Anselma Onesimo, an Ohlone Native American from the Carmel Valley area. Together they established a working ranch in Big Sur that eventually evolved into today's luxury retreat, where room rates start from US$1,875 per night.

Guests can now participate in several Native American-inspired experiences, including 'Shaman Sessions' that help explore human connection with nature through the Shamanic lens. These sessions use practices developed over thousands of years to release unwanted energy imprints and restore physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing (from US$340 per person).Post Ranch InnThe Power Animal Drum Ceremony uses Shamanic drum rhythms to guide participants through meditative states where they can connect with their power animal – a spirit guide believed to accompany each person from birth. This experience accommodates solo travellers or groups up to twelve, with prices starting from US$340 per person or US$540 for two people.

The Big Sur Herbal Spiritual Journey incorporates native plants harvested from the property's chef's garden. Participants create custom Native American herbal smudge bundles for purification rituals and receive a signature quartz crystal-infused mist to continue their practice at home. This experience starts from US$345 per person or US$385 for two people.Post Ranch InnThe Shaman Fire Ceremony draws on local Indigenous traditions of gathering around fire during full moons, when the boundary between physical and spiritual realms is believed to be thinnest.

The ceremony takes place within a medicine wheel and focuses on transformation, allowing participants to release negative energies and invite new beginnings. Prices begin at US$340 per person or US$540 per couple.
