Belmond is expanding its collectible photobook series with two new additions, launched during Paris Photo 2024 at the Grand Palais.
The As Seen By collection, produced in partnership with Parisian publisher RVB, now features five photographers' interpretations of Belmond destinations.
The latest releases showcase Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire by Thomas Rousset and Belmond's Eastern & Oriental Express train in Southeast Asia by Stefanie Moshammer. These join existing works by Coco Capitán, Rosie Marks and Letizia Le Fur in a series that documents Belmond's properties across the globe, from Brazil to South Africa and the Caribbean.
Printed in Venice, each book features a distinctive cloth cover with graphic designs inspired by the featured location. The books will be available globally through RVB Books' network of premium bookstores and galleries, priced at £32.
Rousset, known for blurring boundaries between reality and fiction, and Moshammer, a visual artist working across multiple mediums, bring their distinctive styles to the series.
The collection, which marks the beginning of Belmond's annual publishing calendar, aims to provide intimate perspectives of each destination through the lens of leading international photographers.
The first winner of Belmond's new Photographic Residency was also announced this year, an initiative that represents the hospitality brand’s ongoing commitment to nurturing emerging and unrepresented photographic talent, and their never-seen-before body of work.
After receiving over 800 applications from artists worldwide, Belmond's jury, made up of esteemed members of the photography and arts community, selected a shortlist of 18 talents from 10 countries.
Cecy Young, a Mexico-raised photographer with a longstanding personal interest in Japan was chosen as the winner.
Young will receive an all-expenses-covered residency at a Belmond property location, a print publication with RVB Books, a photography showcase in a major global city, mentorship from Belmond's network of photographic experts, and a financial award of €15,000.
Additionally, Young's work will play a pivotal role in the Belmond Legends campaign, which has seen 14 original commissions from artists including Coco Capitán, Jack Davison, François Halard, Rosie Marks, and Chris Rhodes.
Writer, curator and Belmond Photographic Residency juror, Antwaun Sargent, says: “The Belmond Photo Residency offers an emerging voice an engaging environment to create something new in a place that offers endless possibilities to push the boundaries of their art. The site of the residency in Tuscany will allow for the artist to express their concerns and conceptual conceit in new and daring ways. The mix of portfolios this year offered fresh takes on the idea of travel photography. The inaugural winner of the residency, Cecy Young, has a daring curiosity in her pictures that are expressed through a range of emotion that highlight the places and people she photographs. Ana's photographs bring a newness to concepts of beauty, luxury and place.”
