Uber riders in Cape Town can now book a safari at the touch of a button, securing a possible encounter with the big five in just 24 hours. Olivia Palamountain reports

"Uber Safari" has been announced as the latest innovation in the on-demand taxi company's "Go Anywhere" suite of limited edition experiences.

A partnership with Aquila Private Game Reserve, a wildlife conservancy just two hours from Cape Town, the initiative offers riders in Cape Town the chance to see the big five – lions, elephants, buffalos, cheetahs, and rhinos – on a whim.

Uber Safari is available to book via the Uber app from now until the end of January. Trips are bookable 90 days to 24 hours in advance and will run on Fridays and Saturdays.

The day trip cost a US$200 flat fee, and can accommodate up to four guests. It includes a pickup in Cape Town in an Uber Safari-branded vehicle, so riders can sit back and relax as they head out of the city.

Upon arrival at Aquila, guests will enjoy a welcome toast and lunch before boarding a traditional safari vehicle with experienced game rangers and field guides.

During the game drive, guides will ensure guests have the best opportunity to see the big five. As reported by The Telegraph, Uber Safari is the company’s latest headline-grabbing “Go Anywhere” experience, following Uber Seaplane, a 35-minute flight above the Scottish Highlands, Uber Balloon, which took tourists into the skies above Göreme National Park in Turkey, and Uber Yacht, which offered a taste of the high life in Ibiza.

How to book Uber Safari:

1. Download the Uber app on your smartphone and open the app.
2. Select the ‘Uber Safari’ icon from the home screen.
3. Read about Uber Safari and then choose an available date.
4. Enter your pickup and drop off locations.
5. Make sure everything looks right and click ‘Reserve Uber Safari.’
6. If your trip is confirmed, you’ll receive an email letting you know.
