The Michelin Guide's expansion into hotel recommendations represents a significant step for a service traditionally known for its restaurant ratings.
Debuting as Michelin Key in April 2024, this new arm aims to provide travellers with a more comprehensive luxury travel resource.
In its first selection for the UK and Ireland, 14 hotels received the coveted Three Michelin Keys, signifying an "extraordinary stay".
London dominated this top tier with eight properties, including establishments such as Claridge's, The Connaught (pool pictured below) and The Savoy, alongside luxury brand hotels like Bvlgari Hotel London and The Peninsula London.Outside the capital, Three-Key awards went to Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire, the Newt in Somerset (pcitured below) and Lucknam Park near Bath.
Scotland's Gleneagles Hotel and Ireland's Adare Manor and Ballyfin Demesne also received the highest accolade.
A further 37 hotels were awarded Two Michelin Keys for "exceptional stays", while 72 properties received One Michelin Key, recognising "very special stays".
These selections span a diverse range of accommodations, from boutique urban hotels to countryside manors and island retreats.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides, says: "This selection is an invitation to explore the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, visit their historically rich cities, relax in their charming countryside and scenic landscapes, and enjoy, for a few nights, a timeless lifestyle in century-old castles and manor houses."The Michelin Keys, like the guide's famous restaurant stars, are awarded based on anonymous visits by Michelin inspectors. They evaluate properties on five international criteria, focusing on unique hospitality concepts, distinctive character, and exceptional service levels.
This new hotel selection covers 91 properties in England, 15 in Scotland, 3 in Wales, and 14 in the Republic of Ireland.
All recommended hotels can be booked directly through the Michelin Guide's digital platforms, which also offer a concierge service run by travel experts.
The launch of Michelin Keys in Great Britain and Ireland follows similar selections in other countries, including France, Spain, Italy, Japan, and the United States.
The next Michelin Keys announcement is scheduled for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland on October 9, 2024.
