The glamorous De L’Europe hotel in Amsterdam has debuted a collection of suites created by the Netherlands’ greatest creative talents. Jess Hipgrave reports

The five-star De L’Europe hotel is marking Amsterdam’s 750th year with a creative reimagining of a number of its suites.

From early summer 2024, an entire wing of the heritage hotel will become ‘t Huys (which translates as ‘house’), home to 14 suites curated by a roll call of the city’s leading lights from the worlds of film, fashion, art and design.

Showcasing the likes of the Vincent van Gogh Museum, jewellery designer Bibi van der Velden and couturier Ronald van der Kemp, each suite will offer an immersive stay in the vision of the creative responsible for its design. Highlighted Suites: 

Van Gogh Museum: A luxurious suite with a private gallery room that spotlights Van Gogh’s unpredicted journey into the art world. The bedroom offers guests an insight into the artist’s perspective with ceiling projections, while the bathroom displays visuals of sunflowers and almond blossoms, some of his most noted inspirations. “The Van Gogh Suite serves as a collaborative space for hosting events, meetings, private dining experiences, and beyond while paying homage to the enduring legacy of Van Gogh.” 

Bibi van der Velden: A renowned Dutch jeweller and sculptor known for using unusual materials in her work, the suite follows suit with vintage furnishings and tactile textures such as marble and gemstones. The centrepiece includes a large ceramic necklace which covers an entire wall. 

Ravestijn Gallery: This Dutch art gallery is dedicated to contemporary photography. The suite has been designed to showcase works by the likes of Ruth van Beek, Michael Bailey-Gates and Inez & Vinoodh. 

Salle Privée: This luxury brand founded in Amsterdam has givem the hotel suite a stylish retro theme. The room comes with a selection of personal belongings from the founders of Salle Privée, Patrick and Anna, alongside a range of signature scents available for guests to explore.

RVDK: Ronald van der Kemp’s (RVDK) fashion designs are part of the world’s first sustainable couture label. A work table hosts a mood board of the artist’s couture collection and guests staying in the room will be greeted with a personal fashion illustration by Ronald. 

Sisters Janssen: Design duo Tisja and Ziarah, known as “Sisters Janssen”, have created suite themed around inclusivity in art. The suite is divided into two parts: “Mirror Of The Soul” and “The Womb”, with a mural created to celebrate the female form. 

Wolfi Pictures: A cinematic experience perfect for movie buffs, the suite is designed by Dutch film star, Daan Schuurmans and his wife, actress and TV producer, Bracha van Doesburgh. The Art Deco-style rooms include a cinema space for private viewings of new releases and old favourites.
