Inspired by Tiktok, Mexico’s Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos is selling takeovers of its 79-suite hotel for US$600,000 for three nights. But you can’t bring your friends. Jenny Southan reports

Following a viral story from TikToker @freedom_hustler (250,000 followers) and his wife who documented their experience as the first and only guests at the newly opened 79 suite Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos, the adults-only hotel is now offering a “Billionaire Buyout”.
But you can’t bring your friends. Or your kids.
While this sounds pretty naff, it’s actually a great marketing gimmick from a hotel that turned what was essentially a really negative experience into a positive one, with the help of a bit of creative thinking and chutzpah.
Opened on January 8, the Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos is the sister hotel of Grand Velas Los Cabos, which is home to the world’s most expensive taco – priced at US$25,000. The new hotel has 180 staff, multiple top chefs, a spa, swimming pools and even a tequila tasting room.Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos
For all this to be yours, you will need to splurge US$600,000 for a three night stay with the option to select a different luxury suite each night. (When Mr Hustler stayed he tried to get an upgrade but they said it was “fully booked”.)
Other perks will include private dining at two Michelin star chef Sidney Schutte’s Cocina de Autor restaurant; an airport transfer via helicopter; a sunset tour on the resort’s private Bella yacht; Dom Pérignon on arrival; and personal training sessions.

“During the soft opening phase of the resort, we chose to limit the number of suites available for booking for an intentionally exclusive experience,” says Andreas Schmidt, managing director of the Grand Velas Boutique and sister property Velas Los Cabos, next door.

While the couple’s TikTok videos initially showed some shock at the lack of other guests, they eventually felt “so lucky”.Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos
During a Billionaire Buyout, staff would be on hand to unpack and pack your items each day as required, if you choose to move suites. In the morning you can opt for breakfast on your terrace or on a floating tray in your plunge pool. The menu features items including lobster benedict and Ossetra caviar.
Alternatively you can tuck into an entire breakfast buffet (think of the waste!) that serves @freedom_hustler’s favorite breakfast quesadillas. In the evening you can have a private beach dinner with views of the Sea of Cortez.

The surreal trip would end with @freedom_hustler’s “memorable departure”, complete with waves from the entire hotel team and a Mariachi band.
