The Berkeley hotel has taken to delivering five-star, room service-style breakfasts to people’s homes across London, complete with champagne and a newspaper. Jenny Southan reports
At a time when guest occupancy is at a low, London’s ultra-luxury hotel the Berkeley has started delivering breakfasts to people’s homes instead of hotel rooms.
Giving a whole new meaning to “room service”, the breakfasts are available “during lockdown and beyond”, and are delivered both by bike (SW1X postcode only) or via food delivery company Slerp (within an eight-mile radius).
The Berkeley Breakfasts are bundled with a copy of The Times newspaper, in brown paper with personalised tags and each stamped with a message from the hotel. All recipients need to do is boil the kettle and make a pot of tea or coffee.
For a celebratory start to the morning, half or full bottles of champagne are available, accompanied by orange juice for a classic breakfast Mimosa.
Breakfast in Bed from the Berkeley cost £15 or £24 per person. Orders must be placed by 7pm the day before delivery via Slerp.
The Berkeley is one of a handful of trend-setting hotels that have deen delivery gourmet meals to people at home throughout the pandemic.
Others include Hotel Cafe Royale, the Soho Hotel, which delivers a £50 Veuve Clicquot afternoon tea, and The Dorchester, which delivers fine-dining lunches and dinners for £600 a head, and The Connaught (sister hotel to the Berkeley), which does a five-course menu by Hélène Darroze for two people from £180.
