New Jo & Joe hotel in Paris has sleep cabins and a beer wall
Accor's innovative Jo & Joe lifestyle brand has arrived in the French capital, with the opening of its second "Open House", the Jo & Joe Paris-Gentilly. Not only does it have private bedrooms but dorms and cabins for solo sleepers.
Bridging the gap between hostels and hotels, Jo & Joe has created an "Open House" concept whereby properties have a variety of affordable accommodation types, as well as a mix of en suite and communal bathrooms, social spaces, laundry rooms, lockers and kitchens where guests can prepare their own food. They also put on live music and open mic nights.Located in the south of the city, the Jo & Joe Paris-Gentilly has 485 beds from €25 a night. The new-build property is a far-cry from prison-like hostels of the past. This one has colourful murals on the walls, photogenic lighting and wacky wallpaper. For travellers looking for privacy, there a various room types with en suite bathrooms. Doubles cost from €35 per person but for groups there are also triples (from €30 per person), six-bed apartments (from €26 per person) and "OOO" rooms (Out of the Ordinary).
These have double beds, unique interior design and a private terrace. They cost from €37.50 per person. (This is a steal in a city as expensive as Paris.)Dormitories are the cheapest option and sleep a total of 12 people in each. Bunks are made from raw timber sheets and there are USB and plug sockets next to each for charging personal devices. In this case, bathrooms are shared.
The final option is a Cabin (from €28 per person). Similar to the sleeping arrangements found in Japanese capsule hotels, these are self-contained berths for one person. Inside is a queen-size bed and reading lamp. Fresh sheets and pillows are provided (as in dorms and private rooms too).
What else will you find in the Jo & Joe Paris-Gentilly?
There is a 140-seat restaurant serving big quiches for sharing (a great idea), burgers and hotdogs. Meals cost from €7. All payments are cashless – in fact, you can only pay with your mobile phone.
There is also a bar with a beer wall where guests can help themselves and pay with a prepaid card.
Every day there is a full line-up of events, from DJs nights, open mic sessions, comedy, yoga classes and gigs (this is where the "lifestyle" part really comes in). Outside is a 400 sqm garden that can be hired for parties.
Where else is Jo & Joe opening?
The first Jo & Joe hotel opened in Hossegor, France, in 2017. By 2020, Accor plans to have opened Jo & Joe properties in London's Shoreditch, Budapest, Glasgow, Rio de Janeiro and Rome. A second Paris hotel (Nation) will also open next year.
