Sir Hotels opens first London outpost, with private members' club
Sir Hotels has made its debut in the capital, bringing its signature blend of community-focused, cultural stays to East London, with a members' club set to open imminently. Olivia Palamountain reports
Sir Hotels has opened its first property in London, set in a restored 17th-century textile warehouse located between Spitalfields Market and the City.
Sir Devonshire Square occupies the historic Devonshire Square courtyard, with interiors designed by Maison 191 under Samuel Wright's direction. The design draws inspiration from Bauhaus geometry and textile artist Anni Albers, combined with mid-century architectural influences from Quincy Jones and John Lautner.
Guest rooms feature warm palettes of deep blues, greens, browns and earthy reds with custom-designed furniture and views across Devonshire Square and the London skyline. Unusual features include a rotating gallery wall where guests can purchase artwork directly from emerging London artists, with all proceeds going to the creators.
The 81-room hotel refreshes its artist showcase every six months, providing a platform for new talent whilst allowing visitors to buy pieces on-site. Current works include pieces by London-based artist Femi Dawkins, photography by Deepak and illustrations by Glen Gashi.
Mark Jonathan Heyburn, general manager of Sir Devonshire Square, says: "We're so proud to offer something truly distinctive in London. Sir Devonshire Square combines the intimacy of a boutique hotel with a strong connection to our East London creative spirit, with the refined design and comfort Sir Hotels is known for."The hotel offers an all-day dining concept serving contemporary seasonal dishes, complemented by coffee from East London's AllPress and a cocktail programme. A Sir Shop boutique in the lobby showcases objects curated by local and international makers and designers.
Additional facilities will open in phases, including The Cover, a private members' club from the Sircle Collection, and a main restaurant at later dates. The hotel is finalising plans for an in-house gym, with a local fitness partner providing interim complimentary access for guests. The hotel plans a monthly programme of cultural events capturing London's creative spirit, from intimate DJ sessions and live music to art talks and design panels, positioning itself as a cultural hub rather than simply accommodation.
Social impact is incorporated through the Sir Cares initiative, partnering with 20/20 Levels, a London organisation focused on social mobility for racially underrepresented youth. Guests can contribute a voluntary £1 at booking, with funds supporting mentorship, skills training and career development programmes, plus dedicated internships at the hotel.
