Buchinger Wilhelmi opens private wellness villa in Marbella

May 11, 2026

Buchinger Wilhelmi Marbella has opened Casa La Mariposa, a secluded wellness villa offering medically supervised retreats for families, small groups and guests travelling with dogs.

Buchinger Wilhelmi Marbella has unveiled Casa La Mariposa, a new private wellness retreat created within the former home of Maria Buchinger, daughter of fasting pioneer Dr Otto Buchinger.

Opening to guests for the first time, the villa introduces a more secluded and flexible approach to wellness stays, combining the clinic’s medically supervised fasting and nutrition programmes with the privacy of an exclusive-use residence in Marbella.

The launch reflects growing demand for personalised wellness experiences that combine medical expertise with greater autonomy, privacy and family-friendly accommodation. Unlike many traditional medical wellness retreats, Casa La Mariposa will also welcome accompanying children and dogs.

For decades, the villa served as Maria Buchinger’s private residence during her time in Marbella and played an important role in shaping the routines and philosophy associated with the Buchinger Wilhelmi method. According to the clinic, many of the practices still followed today — including morning yoga, meditation and structured daily rituals — were developed during her time at the property.

Katharina Rohrer-Zaiser, managing director of Buchinger Wilhelmi Marbella, says: “Our grandmother spent a significant part of her life in Marbella, and the villa was her personal sanctuary. Opening Casa La Mariposa to guests allows us to share a deeply personal part of the Buchinger Wilhelmi story, while responding to growing demand for greater privacy and flexibility within wellness stays.”

Guests staying at Casa La Mariposa can choose between the clinic’s therapeutic fasting programme or a regenerative dietary programme while continuing to access the wider medical and wellness facilities of Buchinger Wilhelmi Marbella.

Each stay includes a dedicated on-site nurse available 24 hours a day, private medical consultations, personalised nutritional guidance and meals prepared by the clinic and served within the villa. Additional services including physiotherapy, psychotherapy, yoga, Pilates and personal training can also be arranged.

The experience is structured around the rhythms of a traditional Buchinger programme, with a focus on movement, rest and reflection. Activities may include guided beach walks, meditation sessions and therapeutic treatments.

The villa itself has been renovated over several years and adapted specifically for wellness retreats. Named after the Spanish word for butterfly, Casa La Mariposa references themes of transformation and renewal associated with the Buchinger fasting method.

Facilities include a heated outdoor swimming pool, treatment rooms, a garden sauna, yoga and Pilates studio, meditation garden and private gym. The landscaping incorporates tropical plants and medicinal herbs intended to create a calm and restorative environment.

Interiors were developed in collaboration with concept store La Fábrica de Hielo and designer Andres Sauceda, while selected works from Maria Buchinger’s personal art collection have also been incorporated throughout the property.

Victor Wilhelmi, managing director of Buchinger Wilhelmi Marbella, says: “We have worked carefully over several years to develop this concept, gradually adapting the villa step by step.”

Casa La Mariposa is designed to host up to four guests participating in the wellness programme, alongside accompanying family members, friends or staff. Families travelling with children can also request access to activities at the Marbella Club Kids Club.
