Octola II opens in undisclosed Arctic location
Octola II is an invitation-only property set in a secret Lapland location that features real-time air quality monitoring and a new longevity-focused wellness programme. Olivia Palamountain reports
Octola II, an ultra-luxury wilderness retreat in Finnish Lapland has opened to its first guests, claiming to be the world's first clean-air destination with research-grade air quality monitoring installed on the private estate.
The sibling property to Octola Private Wilderness (read Globetrender's review here), Octola II is located in an set within 700 hectares of undisclosed private wilderness and features an 800-square-metre Ultra Lodge with five ensuite bedrooms, an in-house spa with three saunas, a children's playroom, gym, cigar lounge and dedicated Northern Lights-viewing space.
A separate Supersuite Villa offers two ensuite bedrooms, each with its own sauna, bath and outdoor hot tub.
The retreat is accessible only by private transfer and remains completely off-grid. The location offers near-total silence and views of the aurora borealis more than 200 nights a year.
Janne Honkanen, founder and owner of Octola, says: "Octola II is the evolution of our Arctic concept, honed to perfection. Expect everything you love about Octola – and then go beyond your wildest dreams."
The property monitors air quality in real time using research-grade technology, with the air described as being associated with longer life expectancy, improved respiratory recovery and enhanced wellbeing. According to the World Health Organisation, breathing the pure Arctic air in Lapland for one week may extend a person's lifespan by over 24 hours, with the effect varying depending on the individual's country or region of origin.
A new longevity-focused wellness programme called Respiro Octola has been designed to harness the benefits of this pristine location, with a view to balancing the body, calming the mind and deepening connection with the surroundings. It includes guided breathwork, sauna experiences, cold-water immersion and nature-based treatments inspired by Finnish lifestyle.
Three distinct pool settings are also available to guests at the spa. An innovative Finnish-designed temperature-adjustable cold pool recreates the Nordic ritual of winter swimming, traditionally experienced by dipping into frozen lakes or rivers between sauna sessions. A custom-built swimming pool features a resistance-current function used by Olympic athletes, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls overlooking the Lappish wilderness.
An outdoor jacuzzi completes the bathing options, alongside dedicated spaces for wellness treatments, massage and relaxation.
Reservations are not available online. Prospective guests may request to join a curated waiting list, with invitations extended only to a select few. The property operates as part of the Octola Collection, which includes Octola I and Octola II.
The original Octola Private Wilderness, built over five years in the heart of Lapland's wilderness, maintains a 94% guest return rate. The collection operates year-round and claims to be the first high-end accommodation in the Arctic and Nordic region to achieve a negative carbon footprint.
