Virgin Atlantic is adding a new long-haul route to its winter schedule, with direct flights from London Heathrow to Phuket beginning October 18, 2026. The seasonal service will operate three times a week on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking the airline’s first direct connection between the UK and Thailand’s largest island.

The route aims to meet growing demand for luxury escapes to Southeast Asia as British travellers continue to seek sunshine getaways during the winter months.

As the only nonstop service between London and Phuket, the new flights will provide seamless access to Thailand’s most popular island destination, known for its beaches, vibrant nightlife and culinary diversity. Package holidays with Virgin Atlantic Holidays will go on sale from October 30, 2025, starting from £999 per person, with flight-only bookings available from November 26, 2025.

Beyond its postcard-perfect coastline, Phuket offers an evolving travel experience that blends relaxation with culture. Visitors can explore the golden Buddha at Wat Khao Rang, the historic streets of Old Phuket Town, and the island’s growing collection of design-led resorts and dining experiences.

Virgin Atlantic Holidays will offer more than 20 accommodation options across Phuket and over 80 across Thailand, including destinations such as Krabi, Khao Lak, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui and Bangkok. The company’s partnership with Bangkok Airways will also provide easy onward connections by air and sea, making multi-destination travel across Thailand simple and accessible.

The new Phuket service joins Virgin Atlantic’s expanding portfolio of winter sun routes, which now includes flights to the Maldives, Dubai, Cape Town and, most recently, Cancun – launched in October 2025. Together, these destinations reflect the airline’s strategic focus on high-demand leisure travel and far-flung adventure escapes during the UK’s colder months.

Juha Jarvinen, chief commercial officer at Virgin Atlantic, says: “We’re thrilled to introduce our new direct service to Phuket, giving our customers a flavour of one of Southeast Asia’s most captivating destinations. As well as making the trip more convenient, they can enjoy exploring Thailand’s unique heritage, natural beauty and delicious cuisine. We can’t wait for our customers to experience our trademark hospitality on their next unforgettable journey.”
