The Other House launches 'anti-homesickness' package
In a bid to soothe London's mobile population and help these newcomers settle in, the Other House South Kensington is pioneering an antidote to homesickness via hypnotherapy and 'emotional freedom' techniques. Olivia Palamountain reports
The Other House South Kensington has launched "Tap into Home", a four-week wellbeing package combining therapeutic treatments with community-building experiences for guests staying longer than a month. The offering represents the first time a UK hospitality business has used clinical techniques to address the psychological challenges of relocation.
The package costs £1,000 and includes hypnotherapy sessions, emotional freedom technique (EFT) training, group fitness classes, access to cultural experiences and invitations to monthly networking events. It launches on September 1 to coincide with peak arrival season as students and professionals move to London.
The programme addresses what hospitality experts recognise as a growing issue among London's highly mobile population, including corporate travellers, international students and expatriates who often experience stress, anxiety and homesickness when relocating. Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and focused attention to help individuals reframe negative thoughts and build emotional resilience during periods of transition. EFT combines gentle tapping on acupressure points with focused statements to reduce emotional distress.
The four-week schedule begins with a two-hour hypnotherapy session and one-on-one EFT training in week one, followed by follow-up treatments, group fitness sessions and community events in subsequent weeks. Participants receive continued access to the hotel's gym, vitality pool and members' club events throughout their stay. The Other House operates as a "residents' club" concept, merging hotel and residence models with flexible apartment-style accommodation and hotel services. The South Kensington property caters specifically to longer stays, with 20% of rooms occupied by residents staying more than six months and 30% by those staying between two weeks and six months.
Each "club flat" features open-plan living with sitting room, fully-equipped kitchenette, bedroom and shower room, designed with "British maximalist" interiors inspired by the home of chief executive and founder Naomi Heaton. The property includes an all-day brunch restaurant, cocktail bar, private club lounges and wellbeing facilities.Long-stay rates at the Other House South Kensington start from £950 per week (£4,200 per month) including cleaning, laundry and members' club access. Short stays under 14 nights start from £250 per night on a room-only basis.
The company plans to expand the concept with a Covent Garden location opening in 2025 and Belgravia to follow, positioning itself as a gateway to London's most sought-after neighbourhoods for the internationally mobile. The wellbeing services are provided through partnership with Mamma Wellbeing, which offers physical, mental and spiritual treatments within the hotel.
