Design studio Koto has launched a collection of high-end houseboats at Silverlake, a design-led holiday estate in Dorset, set to welcome first residents in spring 2026.
Offering just ten permanent moorings on freshwater lakes surrounded by protected heathland and forest trails, the houseboats benefit from Silverlake's existing amenities including tennis courts, multi-use games areas and forest playgrounds.
A new lido featuring the UK's first alfresco spa, complete with restaurant and treatment rooms, will open on the same lake in 2026. The floating homes, developed in collaboration with Habitat First Group, feature two distinct models: Uku, a one-bedroom retreat designed for short stays, and Shio, a refined two-bedroom residence for longer-term living. Both feature bespoke kitchens and bathrooms, expansive glazing, skylights and generous part-sheltered decking.
"This launch marks an exciting new chapter for Koto - our first collection of floating homes," says Johnathon Little, co-founder of Koto. "We've created these houseboats to feel modern and luxurious, yet deeply rooted in place, peaceful spaces that foster a slower pace of life and a closer connection to nature." The sustainable floating homes are positioned as homes that "dwell lightly," designed for those seeking harmony with the natural environment whilst maintaining luxury standards.
Red Paxton, CEO of Habitat First Group, says: "We are thrilled to be creating a unique lifestyle destination in the heart of Dorset. Our new lake will provide a serene base for people looking for a unique and striking on-the-water holiday home, with the UK's first alfresco spa and restaurant just next door."Located near the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast, Silverlake already hosts 150 holiday homes across six villages, with the recent launch of Deanesly Point. The floating homes represent a new chapter for the estate, which prohibits primary residence use.
Reservations are now open with finance options available. While launching at Silverlake, Koto floating homes are also available for placement at waterfront locations worldwide.
