The Hoxton hotel group has expanded its Italian footprint with the opening of a new property in Florence, marking the brand's second location in the country following its Rome debut in 2021.
Set in the heart of Florence's historic centre, the 161-room hotel spans two contrasting buildings: a 16th-century Renaissance palazzo, originally built for the Ricasoli family, and a 1980s modernist structure designed by Florentine architect Andrea Branzi, founder of Archizoom and later a member of the Memphis Group.
The Hoxton Florence, located moments away from landmarks including the Duomo, Uffizi Gallery, and the Fortezza da Basso, features design work by award-winning AIME Studios, which has preserved many original Renaissance elements including an outdoor arcade, lime-washed walls, and frescoes dating back to 1611. Guests can choose between distinctly designed rooms split across both buildings. The main palazzo offers a modern reinterpretation of Renaissance aesthetics with mid-century Italian influences, featuring views of the Duomo, outdoor terraces with bathtubs, and dual-level accommodations. Meanwhile, rooms in the Branzi building celebrate bold colours and clashing prints inspired by postmodernist design principles.
The Hoxton Florence also introduces the brand's first-ever "House" category – a self-contained three-bedroom apartment with private entrance, kitchen, dining area, lounge, and outdoor terrace. This accommodation includes exclusive perks such as welcome treats from local suppliers and a dedicated House Manager available via WhatsApp.
The hotel's culinary offerings include Alassio, a Mediterranean restaurant with coastal Italian influences, and Enoteca Violetta, a neighbourhood wine bar featuring local and international selections. Hidden beneath the enoteca is La Riserva, a private dining space and wine cellar.Maintaining The Hoxton's focus on community engagement, the Florence property has partnered with local businesses, including a gallery space showcasing new talent and a retail shop featuring items from local designers.
For events, the hotel offers two dedicated spaces: a 90-square-metre vaulted wine cellar and a 130-square-metre rooftop terrace with panoramic city views. The courtyard is also available for private hire for special events. In line with its sustainability focus, The Hoxton offers a "Good Rate" discount of €20 per room for guests travelling between Hoxton properties by rail. With regular trains connecting Rome and Florence in approximately 1.5 hours, the hotel encourages visitors to explore more of Italy via sustainable transport.
